I'm kinda chilled by Gaius here. Like, rationally I know this is what would happen. He's displayed that reasoning before. Still, emotionally, I'm like, "Gaius, you're standing back and allowing slaughter of sorcerers by the King's forces, or allowing slaughter of the King's forces by sorcerers!" And I know he does this, he takes care of those he loves and cares for and to hell with the rest, but still... *wibbles*

I am LOVING your fill on this, anon-author. Can't wait to read more!

Oh, gosh, Gaius always makes me feel conflicted like that. On the one hand, I love him, so so much, and the father/son relationship with Merlin is just amazing. But he did sit back and let the Purge happen, and we hardly ever see qualms about it. He's much more self-preserving than Merlin, but he still has a good heart, especially when it comes to the people he loves. But yeah, Merlin's definitely going to have some issues with just sitting back and letting things unfold, even though he knows Gaius is just trying to protect him (:

I can't see how Merlin will be able to wriggle out of this. He can't let innocent people die to protect himself. He's not wired that way. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Holy wow! This is a great fic! I'm dying to know just who it is that wants 'Emrys', and why they want him! So very intriguing! *bounces* And Arthur has to know that something's up, which is only going to complicate matters.
