Arthur/Merlin. Merlin spells himself to be the perfect servant, and he loses his whole personality in the process. (I'm hoping also for some memory loss, like forgetting everything about his magic and any magic-related event than happened). Kudos for some Arthur emotional-angst when he realizes Merlin did it for him and it's his fault.

Ouch, poor Merlin. Arthur is going to feel like shit when he finally realizes something is wrong. And I can see some really good h/c coming!!

Merlin’s wrist gave under a hard blow, twisting awkwardly, and even the manservant’s newfound stoicism couldn’t contain his gasp of pain. The sword fell from his hand as he dropped down to one knee, breathing too hard to keep himself upright. He cradled his wrist close to his chest, his body hunched in an instinctive, defensive position ( ... )

So now he said, “I’m well aware of your pathetic skill with the sword, no need to beg forgiveness.” It was a joke, and he hoped Merlin would recognize the tease for what it was - how Arthur apologized, how Merlin let him off the hook, how they always were… them.

But yet again he was to be disappointed. Merlin never stopped looking in his direction - not at him, and only as ordered, Arthur thought bitterly - but his shoulders dropped and his voice dropped back to that deferential murmur. “I’m sorry, sire. I’ll get it right next time, I swear it ( ... )

Whatever he was going to say next was interrupted by a cough from the doorway, startling Arthur into dropping Merlin’s hand. Merlin didn’t appear to react at all, and Arthur swallowed hard, jaw set as he looked away and over his shoulder, only to meet with Lancelot’s dark eyes, a mix of curiosity and concern ( ... )

Once again, Anon, this is wonderful!

Loving the misunderstanding and the angst. I'll be sitting on the edge of my seat until the next part :D

!!! Lancelot to the rescue! Oh I'm so, so glad that this takes place post-S3. You've managed to make me very worried about Merlin. Let's hope Lancelot can put two and two together!

Love what you are doing with the fic, anon.

I loved being in Merlin's POV as his own spell took control of his mind and I love, love, love Arthur's POV now that Merlin is throughly bespelled . I also love how the people who know him (Gaius, Arthur, Lancelot) all know something is off but for lots of good reasons aren't really persuing it yet, because Merlin insists he's fine. Even in a place like Camelot it would be a huge jump in logic to come to the correct conclusion. Especially at the first time they notice something "off."

This is heartbreaking. Poor Merlin, and poor confused Arthur.
I look forward to more.

Thanks god finally everybody is noticing something is wrong with Merlin, even Lancenlot and Gwaine are talking about it! Arthur even remembered the night he unfairly scolded Merlin and admits that his manservant is "broken". I really hope they can get a moment of rest between the whole wizard/assasin debacle to speaks with Gaius... as he, more than anybody, must have noticed the change!!

Amazing work as usual, author!anon!!

It was really good to see both Arthur and Lancelot noticing Merlin's hurt in this update and wanting to help him. I hope they can do something for him soon. Thanks for continuing with this story!
