definitely hoping for a girl, but of course, i will be happy no matter what.

for the record, i was incredibly disappointed that jacob was a boy, for about 1/10 of a second, and i was completely fine with it after that. i can't picture anything else now.

i sure did. i dated and became engaged to a guy named nick while i was in college. while we were together, i was the president of the glbt group on campus. and madly in love with vanessa, who i dated for 3.5 years after nick and i broke up. he knew he whole time. i was trying to make it work, to have a "normal" life because i wanted a family. thank goodness i figured out that i could date women and still have a family.

nick and i talk periodically. he's a great guy.

Do you have any names picked out?

pretty set on benjamin thaddeus for a boy. after my grandfather and my favorite uncle.

for a girl we are not sure at all. the front runner right now is carolyn, but not sure for a middle name. we're tossing around gabrielle, after ang's mother (it's her mother's middle name). we'd probably call her callie, though, so we have been considering just naming her that. but i think callie won't necessarily always suit her, for example when she's 40 she might prefer something a little more mature like carolyn.

also, if you want to picture the whole name together, our last name is murch.

Have you guys faced any blatant homophobia? (ie- ppl saying stuff to you in public?) How will you handle that if it occurs when Jacob/new baby are older?

Just curious, since it is something we've dealt with...

i have been very, very fortunate my entire life, and it's not something i've taken for granted. i've never faced blatant homophobia, other than my uncle, who has been more vocal about it since his stroke. and that i mostly just ignore because he's a sad old man. it makes me angry but it doesn't hurt me

i was helping a friend set up an account and did the free three day trial just for kicks. i wrote to two girls. one never wrote back. the other was ang. she went to high school with a bunch of people i went to college with, so i used that as a conversation starter and it went from there.
