talk to me about cloth diapers.  what's your favorite kind?  what's hard?  what's easy?  is it really possible for two working moms?  what do i need to get started?

We used mostly Bum Genius but really prefolds are not as hard as the look, I also like goodmama's and juicytoots [a WAHM brand by an LJ Mom who GKB knows]. If you're looking for something that just comes off and on as simple as a disposable I would look at All In Twos or Pockets but that's going to cost a lot more then just going for prefolds with covers. I say AI2s over AI1s because they work just as good but AI1s take way too long to dry.

I do some reviews and post a lot of links in my cloth blog http://greenkidsgogreen.blogspot.com/ which might help.

ETA: I didn't find the laundry to be a huge factor in it. It's totally doable for two working Moms.

i like the all-in-one style, just from the looking i've done tonight. i didn't even see anything about all-in-twos, but faster drying is definitely something i'd be interested in.

i'm going to check out your blog. thanks for the link!!

We use a combination of prefolds and covers and one-size pockets. Pete was extremely nervous about the prefolds but now he actually prefers them because we just tri-fold them and place them in the cover and then put the whole thing on the baby. And when they're dirty you just dump the prefold in the pail and put a new one in the cover (unless it's poopy or the cover got wet and needs replacing too). Easy peasy! He dislikes having to pull the insert out of the pockets before dumping them in the pail, and having to re-stuff the pockets with the inserts after I do laundry. :P ( ... )

prefolds definitely sound the cheapest.

i like the look of fuzzibuns and knickernappies, too. and i think i'd prefer anything with snaps over velcro. seems like over the long run they'd be longer-lasting.

there's so much to learn...

I use gdiapers with a disposable/compostable insert and I don't really recommend them unless you don't have a good washing situation and you feel guilty enough about tossing disposables in the trash that you are willing to pay 2x the price. A daycare could totally handle them.

my cousin said he wasn't crazy about the gdiapers. hmmm... i've seen lots of other kinds that interested me, there is certainly no shortage of options!

I got mine from a La Leche League friend who was a SAHM selling cloth diapers. All organic prefolds, and the diaper covers were from various sources, whatever I thought was cool looking for the kidlings.

Hard- nighttime cloth diapering meant a lot more awake time for everyone. Also, putting the cloth diapers in baggies and hoping they wouldn't stink up the car, my bag, or the stroller on the way home to be cleaned.

Easy- Soooooo soft on their butts, less irritation if you change the wet diapers fast enough. Also, I saved a few of the new diapers and STILL use them for heavy moontime bleeding to this day, twelve years after the youngest was born. :-)

It's possible and good for everyone. You need a good washing machine, some diaper covers and a stack of diapers. :-)

We use Goodmamas. They are amazing. Our preschool has no problem using them on Chelsea either.

i know that day care won't use them, but i don't mind buying some disposables for that situation. it should still save some money in the long run.

i'll check out goodmamas. there are so many kinds and brands and i'm a little overwhelmed, but luckily, my interest in this is renewed with a lot of time left in the pregnancy to figure it out.
