Uh, I guess so? Japan was a mess for a long time as far as I can remember. I don't know all the era names.

Yeah. After all, if the ruler loses the Way then the kirin is the one who suffers for it.

That's true! I guess I'll do that one of these days.

Well, it was around then when all the daimyō were fighting each other.

Sounds about right. They're fighting burned down the capital Kyoto.

I remember that... from my history class.

[He laughs.] It's weird to think that the time period I lived in is now ancient history.

Of course. I can't complain, but it's hard watching other kirin go through it. Not all of them die, like Keiki, but still...

And no kingdom lasts forever. So someday...

And it's strange to talk to someone who's already been alive centuries back. It's amazing, seeing history coming together like that.

Of course. So I guess, in the end, it all comes out the same, huh? We ordinary humans also always have in mind that someday, we will invariably die. And that others might be dying this very second...

That's one thing I can say that's interesting about this place. Some of us are from the same place but different times. Some from the past, like us, and some from far into the future. Even further than Youko!

It's kinda depressing to think about, but I guess that's true. Sometimes it's hard to come to terms with your immortality in the same way it's hard to come to terms with mortality. Living so long you see people come and go so often that it's easy to start getting detached. You know?
