You know that something is terribly wrong when Hibari's moody and death glare-y.
Wait, did I say moody and death glare-y?
I mean, more moody and death glare-y... than usual.
On this occasion, Hibari was sprawled out irritably on the fine leather couch in the library, his dark expression promising a biting to anyone who dared bother him, so most of the guardians avoided him studiously as they filtered in for the briefing session. Not having much of a choice, I went to stand at my usual station behind him. But, despite experiencing Hibari through all his moods through the many years I'd worked with him in both the Discipline Committee and the Foundation, quite frankly today...
... his mood quite scared me.
Initially it was not easy to tell the reason for Hibari's intense irritation and it took a lot of careful examining, trying to avoid catching Hibari's attention, and simultaneously trying to listen to the briefing, to find out the reason. It was probably a bit improper of one such as I to actually be curious enough to er, evade his privacy to get to the root of the cause, but at the least I could be assured he would not be putting me into an early grave anytime too soon. The reason for his irritation this day, although Hibari had tried to cover it up with his high collar, was easily noticable if you looked closely enough.
Teeth marks.
...
I stood there for a minute, somewhat dumbfounded. It seemed preposterous that the one that usually did the biting (to death) had been bitten. I suppose that was why he was hiding it though, trying uphold his dignity and pride - even as his anger and irritation leaked out through all the edges of his finely reined-in urge to punish. His usual quiet anger did not serve him well today.
I realised I needn't have worried about discovery, Hibari's scowling gaze was firmly fixed on a certain individual across the room, who was smiling amusedly in that way he has, one arm folded across his stomach with the other arm braced on it and one dark gloved hand subtly at his collar. As though hinting at something.
It didn't take a genius to put two and two together.
(Even though I wasn't so sure it made four.)
Or read the anger which enamated even further from Hibari. I felt much like running.
As far away as I could get.
Too bad I had to stand my ground. It was kind of uncomfortable here.
The other Guardians could feel the tense undercurrent running in the room now, and looked vaguely uncomfortable as they glanced (or scowled... or smiled knowingly) at Hibari who appeared the obvious root with his anger pretty much simmering off him in waves. Even Yamamoto's smile faltered slightly as his instincts kicked in to the potential danger.
They were all very lucky Hibari was preoccupied.
It appeared Tsuna noticed this as well, the speed of his talking sped up a fraction as he finished off his brief with a very short conclusion and beat a hasty retreat from the room as though his heels were on fire. Well, perhaps they were as Gokudera was hot on his heels and Yamamoto trailing behind. Normally the other Guardians might stay for some catch up, but everyone recognised the need to GET OUT today. The others left quickly also, giving their excuses and trying to modulate their walking speed.
Finally it was just the three of us. I glanced at the two of them and realised I probably ... shouldn't stay...
Not if I wanted to get in the crossfire - something told me that was a really really bad idea.
With that, I muttered something - not quite sure what it was - to Hibari, made a short bow to them both and hightailed it out of there before the storm could hit.
And not a minute too soon.
I stood with my back to the closed door, not really wanting to stay and overhear their conversation - not that I got the notion they were doing anything like conversing - but my heart was still hammering from my timely escape.
From the crashing sounds coming from the room, what was happening inside was anyone's guess.

Here, have this sorry excuse of a fic. xD I seem to be forgetting everything today, so while I had a really good idea, it's gone and I can't figure out what it was for the life of me. I still have to post yesterday's fic *cough* and the 30 Day Meme, so that's all for now. >_>
I got the idea from
here where it says:
72. Group Message to Vongola Guardians: Guys, seriously, help: Hibari's asking who bit him last night. Why aren't any of you replying to my messages? TT_TT
But is indirectly related... because they're not drunk.
