Oren enters the bar. romulanminor August 24 2009, 16:38:22 UTC
He is ragged and confused, and barefoot. His pants are sullied and there appears to be seaweed hanging off of the hem of them, but he does not pay much mind to it. He does not notice the silence that falls over the people whom recognise him, and he walks up to the nearest person he sees and asks calmly, "Where am I?"

Oren does not know why the man standing here does not understand how important his mission is. "I must get decalithium to my planet, to help Ambassador Spock create an unstable substance to use as a way to stop a star from destroying Romulus. Do you not see that it is imperative? I am a miner, sir. I am no warrior, though your eyes say that you think of me as such." Oren struggles to reason out in his mind why this man is hostile toward him. This would be the perfect time for some of Mr. Spock's logical deductions if he has ever needed them, but they do not come. He simply does not get it.

[OOC - If he stops the supernova from destroying Romulus, NONE OF THIS HAPPENED.]

Ambassador? He's not from Jim's timeline, then, or this one. "You are a friend of Spock?" she asks. Spock, befriending Romulans...well, it certainly fits the character of the man she knows.

AMBASSADOR SPOCK?

Seriously, how important was this guy??

Okay, okay. The images were already bubbling up. The information from the meld... he had to concentrate for a moment, but after several of them, he realized... 'Nero' was telling the truth. But it made no damned sense.

Oren nods. "Yes, I am friend to him! I defend him when no one else will. They think he is foolish, his accusations against the senators they say are incorrect. I did believe him, I witnessed it destroy a planet where I was trying to collect enough ore to give to him." Oren sighs, just loudly enough to be heard over the wind pulsing around them, picking up the leaves and dusting them about.

...Fuck.

Already, the memories left behind in his head by one very unpleasent meld were coming in handy. Kirk stepped forward, giving a small gesture to Marlena to relax. "Nero... what year is it, where you came from?"

"I am from 2387, sir. The star date I last knew was 64333.4." Oren stills then, eyes widening in astonishment. "...When am I?"

It was all lining up with it. Kirk had to be cautious, "It's 2258. ...You need to get back to stop the supernova from over taking Romulus. It won't happen for over a hundred years... in this universe."

"What?" Time travel...but that was impossible! Oren had never heard of this feat happening, and could not fathom that it was actually happening to himself. "It is not 2387?" Oren shakes his head, he knows the answer to this already. "Sir, if you have brought me here, you must tell me how to go back! I must save my planet. Please! I have a wife, an unborn child!" He looks more desperate than the Nero from the time-line that James Kirk had known him ever would have.

How the fuck was he supposed to tell Nero (NERO!) this. ...A wife? Unborn child? He was learning things by the second, "First, you are going to relax." Kirk said firmly. "Something has brought you here, for a reason. No, I don't know what brought you here or how... but you're not the first. We're trying to figure out how to send people back to their timeline but..."

A sigh of his own, "We don't know how. And unfortunately... there's been... circumstances, involving you. Another you."

"Another me?" A sort of bemusement crosses his features at this information, and as he listens to more of the words coming out of this man's mouth he finds himself growing more worried by the second. "What circumstances do you speak?" It's evident through his speech patterns that his English is not optimal, that wherever he was from it was not required and had grown stagnant with non-use. His accent was thicker, and though the words were precise they were somewhat...off.

"...Not even sure where to begin." Kirk said quietly, then glanced around. Finally he gestured for them to sit at a table, taking all of this in stride. For now. He would freak out a little later.

He plopped down and looked to the Romulan across from him who, honestly, looked a fuck ton less terrifying like this. "I'll try to keep this simple. A Romulan named Nero came through a black hole, hell bent on revenge. He did... terrible things, things that have left scars on the entire universe. You... are him. Or will be him... or something like that, I think. He killed billions in the name of revenge, for something that happened despite everyone's best efforts."

Oren follows and lowers himself into the chair that is gestured for him to sit in. When he hears what Kirk has to say, he can feel his heart stopping in his chest. When he speaks, his voice is roughened with emotion. "I do not understand. Why would I do this? Life is sacred, all beings deserve it. I would never--" It just does not make sense, none of this makes sense and Oren cannot make it make sense in his mind. The words are cut off sharply before they are resumed again, halted. "I do not-- I do not llaekh! ...I do not kill!"

Oh that just reminded him way too much of the past and Nero yelling. Kirk forced himself to stay calm. "...Ambassador Spock," Please don't let me fuck this up and get another Nero on our hands. Literally. "Gave everything he could into trying to save Romulus. He even gave up his home, his world, his everything, in the end... but the supernova destroyed Romulus before all of you could manage to get what you needed in time." Giving 'Nero' an understanding about what had happened.

Not that Kirk had a lick of sympathy for the bastard that had come through the black hole.

Oren did not look any less distressed, in fact he appeared to be more horrified than even before. "Was this meant to satisfy my question? That I ...killed... billions of people because one man could not save an entire planet? Why? Why would this happen?"

It was sudden, but Oren quickly turns away from Kirk to hide an embarassing lack of emotive control that was not characteristic of his people in any way. He regains momentum quickly to return to the conversation, but the implications are not forgotten. "I am just as much to blame as he was, then. I did not give him the decalithium in time. I did not provide him with the necessary tools. Why would I harm someone if it was my fault?" Despite Kirk's best efforts, Oren did not have the slightest comprehension of what would have possessed him to do such a thing.

"If my world still lives, my laws still live. My life, my choice." Oren nods resolutely. "Sir, I apologise for any grievance of reminder I may have caused you." The words were enigmatic but they held weighty meaning, for Oren at

This wasn't Nero. It was, and wasn't. This was someone who had not completely snapped and lost his sanity. "I can't say fully what happened. I don't know that much. All I can tell you is what did happen. If you are a different person, and something tells me that while you have his past, you don't have his future..." Kirk closed his eyes for a moment, thinking.

"You cannot be Nero, here. Tell me your name again. In Romulan. Slowly."
