Oren enters the bar. romulanminor August 24 2009, 16:38:22 UTC
He is ragged and confused, and barefoot. His pants are sullied and there appears to be seaweed hanging off of the hem of them, but he does not pay much mind to it. He does not notice the silence that falls over the people whom recognise him, and he walks up to the nearest person he sees and asks calmly, "Where am I?"

Oren stares at the table in front of him, unseeing for just a moment. "Yes, it is Ŏ'ŗên. Ah-rr-eh-n." He ripped off a piece of a napkin and used the pencil on the table that was meant to write down orders from the menu to indicate the IPA version of his name. "Most people simply write it 'Oren.'" He wonders why he is not being likened to this alternate version of himself, but he is glad that he is being recognised as someone unique and different. "What is your name?" He realises he has been calling him 'this man' for the past fifteen minutes.

Kirk thought about it for a moment, then blinked before his lips twitched. "Sorry, kind of a shock to see the man who was your enemy as suddenly... someone else." He almost offered his hand before managing to stop himself. "Name's James T. Kirk."

Oren nods, he understands that it must be a monumental task not to drive him into the ground where he sat. He notices Kirk's hand twitch as though wishing to extend to his, and he in a moment of impulsiveness raised his own hand outward in a gesture of peace. It is up to Kirk whether or not he will take it, Oren leaves that up to the man in front of him. "I am sorry to meet in these circumstances, James T. Kirk, but I am grateful that you have restrained yourself from harming me. I do not know if I could be so kind."

Romulans were telepathic. He knew that from courses back in the academy. So only with caution did he reach out and shake the other's hand, careful to keep his thoughts neutral. "How does 'Oren' strike you as a name?" It was the easiest way a human could pronounce that name without saying it backwards and... that wouldn't go well at all.

Oren reaches further to clasp Kirk's hand within his own, giving it a firm shake and strengthening his mental shields considerably before initiating contact ( ... )

Without a doubt, it was his intuition kicking in something fierce right about here. It was practically screaming in his head. Okay, okay. He thought in his own head, trying to soothe it. Fuck, it was like telling Spock had made him more aware of its existence. He wasn't sure what he thought about that.

"Romulans," Kirk started, being level with Oren. "Aren't exactly the most popular people right now. In fact, a whole lot more like, 'really really hated'. They were an enemy of the Federation before and now even though the Romulan government denied any attachment to Nero and his ship, few people believe it."

Kirk gave him a look, "I know that its true because we know they were from the future. How could the Romulans know? What I'm getting at is that it'll be difficult for you to do anything right now. But..."

He hesitated, but only for a second. He already knew his choice, but the question is, how would it affect others? "...I might be able to help you."
