Captain,

There's a new displaced person on the ship. I've got him settled in my room and know who he is. He's got no weapons and isn't a threat. I'm just sending a message to let you know of his presence.

Emma,

That isn't how this works. I need a name and more information. He needs to be brought to sickbay to be checked for anything, and I need to meet him. Bring him up to my office immediately.

Captain Kirk

Captain,

I'll bring him up as soon as possible.

She looked over at David. "Captain wants to meet you. He's a nice young man, if not a bit jumpy." She got dressed and replicated some clothes for him.

Well, shit, this was not something he wanted to do because if Emma was right, which is looking more likely by the minute, he's been dead for at least three years. That does not bode well for this meeting at all. Goddammit.

"Somehow, darlin' that ain't reassurin', so help me, if he shoots at me," he trailed off moving to pull on his clothes.

"Lead the way, darlin'."

Em rolled her eyes. "He's not going to shoot you. At least, I don't think they allow that sort of thing in Starfleet. Not too sure." She squeezed his hand and led him through the corridors until they reached the office. She pushed at the buzzer.

"Captain Kirk? It's Emma McCoy with the displaced person in question."

Why does she keep saying 'displaced person' and not a name? That worried the hell out of him.

"Enter." Kirk called out, looking to Emma with a nod and studying the man who entered with her.

...Why did he look oddly familiar?

She kept herself from beaming. "Captain Kirk, I'd like you to meet Dr. David McCoy." Em squeezed his hand just to remind herself that he was really there with her.

...Well. Well. That fucking explained that oddly familiar thing.

Kirk stood up slowly, studying David McCoy closely. Hell, Bones did look just like the two of them mixed together. ....Oh. Fuck.

Bones.

Bones wasn't going to take this well at all. This was the guy who had seriously fucked up Bones' life. Fuck.

"...Doctor." He offered out his hand.

Well, he hadn't shot at him yet or anything, which was a decidedly good thing, so this was the captain. The youngest Kirk a captain. Well, it did run in his blood and all, only logical. Still, David couldn't resist his eyebrow arching as he took his hand.

"Captain Kirk, pleasure to meet you."

The eyebrow did it. Those eyebrows of Bones? CLEARLY from his father. It was hard to keep from laughing, "I don't even have to guess how you relate into all this..." He gestured to the two chairs in front of his desk, "So have a seat and tell me the basics. How did you end up on my ship?"

"Feel free to guess if you really want, I ain't gonna stop you." David let Emma sit first before taking his own seat, leaning back a little.

"That's not really a basic sort of thing, Captain, considerin' last I knew I was supposed to be dyin' and then I, for lack of a better word, poofed into existence in my formerly dead wife's bed. Not entirely sure what happened in the apparent three years between the two or the distance between the two."

"Three years?" Was it that short a time? Hell.. He wasn't sure when Bones' dad had actually died only that he had. "Well, you were... definitely dead, I know that much. Luckily, I guess, you're not the first not-dead person we've got on the ship. Before you ask, no I have no idea why you aren't dead anymore or how you've got here. If we had that figured out we've be fa.. more famous. As it is, half of Starfleet doesn't believe people like you and Emma exist."

"Unless my math is wrong." He frowned, crossing his legs. "Emmy here filled me in on the part of I actually died. I just say supposed to because, I'm still findin' this hard to believe, as you can probably guess."

Rolling his eyes he chuckled. "I wasn't gonna ask if you knew, especially if this ain't the first time this has happened. And I don't blame Starfleet."

"I know from Bones... er, your son, that you were a doctor and had your own practice. How up to date on technology were you?" He knew some doctors stuck with older traditions, while others loved the latest and greatest.

"Reasonably up to date. I wasn't one of those doctors who was stuck livin' completely in the past, but at th' same time, I felt certain things didn't need to be changed."

He sighed slightly. "How is my son, anyway?"

"...Heavy question to ask, sir." Kirk said quietly, frowning. "You... coming back..." How could he put this? "...Isn't... gonna be good on him."
