Bones and Jim left the Captain's office soon after the surprise meeting with Emma and David. From the moment the older pair left the office Bones hadn't spoken, just nodded in response to Jim's suggestion that they return to their room. They were both quiet in the turbolift, and made it inside their room before either man uttered a word

Sam's back was turned as he consulted a padd. He had been on the way to the mess when the padd started pinging with a message alert. The vaccinations were almost complete, but the lists of names seemed endless. Every few hours he would get a message with another list of names attached. Cross checking the manifest with the vaccination records, despite the miracles of computing, was proving time consuming.

Jim was there when he looked up from the padd. He smiled softly at his brother. It had been some time since they had seen one another.

"It's not the same!" ...Shit, did that mean Bones was telling same about the threesome? Or the foursome? "...Definitely not the same. We're there, together."

[dreadpiratekirk]

"Even if you were there together, wasn't he fucking other people?" Sam said, hoping the next punch didn't knock him out.

[kirktastic]

"Not. the. same." Jim tried to emphasize. "We're there, doin' it together, being together. I know what he did, he knows I did, we know who we did."

Sam didn't want to show his exasperation, but he was certainly feeling it.

"Just because you know, that makes it not sex? If you're watching him, he can't love the other people?"

[kirktastic]

"Course that fucking doesn't make it not sex!" His fingers were curling back into fists as he glared at his brother. "Don't mock what you don't understand."

Sam watched his brother's hands curl up into fists and prepared himself for what was coming. "I'm not mocking you. I'm asking you the questions you need to be asking yourself."

[kirktastic]

"Like I've never asked myself this? You think I'm really that stupid? You think this is easy for any of us?" He outright demanded to know.

He could see the hurt in Jim's face. "Stupid, never. Willfully ignorant..."

[kirktastic]

"I'm not ignorant of it." Specially not after that night with Bones. "I'm not. Doesn't make any of this shit any easier. I offered to stop. He said he didn't want it, because I wasn't doing it because I knew he..." Fuck he didn't even know how to put it, "...I offered because I thought it'd make him happy. Wasn't enough."

"If you let me tell you one thing about being in relationships, this is it--you can't change people. You have to accept them for who they are. It doesn't mean that you have to like it, but you do have to live with it." Sam put a hand to his ribs. Yep, still cracked.

"Sounds like Bones has accepted you sleeping with other people... At least, he's not trying to change it. That's why he turned you down."

[kirktastic]

"I accepted Bones for what he is, or ... was. If I wanted someone who was like me I would have found someone who was like me. Didn't want that. ...He just wants to make it even." Don't know if he cares that that's something I liked about him. Fuck. Selfish.

[dreadpiratekirk]

"Well, now you know. You have to decide to accept it or run away." Now get the fuck out so I can pass out, Jimmy.

[kirktastic]

Glare. "Don't talk like you know all the answers, Sam. Don't push it with him anymore. I don't want to have to hate my own brother." He stood up, and walked out the door without looking back.
