Tyler nodded in agreement, splitting the guarding duties equitably and headed ahead, phaser also ready. Who knew what was going on and all this ice just made things seem more...sinister. At least they were moving. He was starting to feel like he was freezing in place.

One eye on Jim, Bones stepped closer to him as they approached the living quarters, the doors frozen shut again. "More like they'd be at work, you think?" Bones asked. This wasn't a place you brought families. Seemed to him these colonists would be more likely at their jobs if something bad happened.

Bones looked over at the lift as they walked toward the first floor apartments, and wondered if they'd be able to somehow manage getting to the higher floors.

He pulled out his tricorder and started to scan the building. Maybe it was the ice that was making scanning difficult, but it seemed unable to get very far beyond the first two floors. "I'm not getting anything immediately..." He trailed off, looking to the small group. "None of this makes sense. How could this ice get this far into these buildings already?"

"This doesn't make any sense, no sense at all. The generator should have been running, keeping this place warm."

He looked back at Jim and the security people. "This is gonna be slippery." Thank fuck there were spikes in their shoes, he groaned to himself, as they headed slowly down the frozen steps.

"Wouldn't they keep that from happening?" Hank asked. "I mean the generator ought to be the most protected."

Step by step they made it down into the basement, and Jim hit on a flashlight. It was pitch black, and not very deep. "How did they get into the ice and stone this deep..."

The four of them made it to the bottom of the steps, only their flashlights providing any light. They spotted the generator in the corner, a frozen block of ice. "Shit," Bones said, mostly to himself. Without any heat, no one would have survived this cold.

That was, until he spotted something. Kneeling down, he lifted his goggles for a few seconds to get a better look. "Look at this. There's some sort of green liquid frozen in the ice here." Instead of being blueish-clear, it was a light neon-green color.

He pulled out his communicator, fumbling in his thick gloves, and called out as soon as it beeped, "Spock! I need you in the living quarters in the basement. Found something you need to take a look at. Careful coming down, it's a slippery slope." It occurred to him he could have done it through their bond, but the idea of it made him shiver more than the cold. Not yet... not yet.
