At least in a week, I'll officially be on vacation, even if I don't leave on a jetplane til Monday night. Of course, most of that is my own doing, after signing up for overtime on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, in addition to being scheduled to work on Wednesday and Thursday. It's been a bit busy lately. I've been working some crazy overtime to get a little extra spending cash for Europe, and it conveniently gives me something to do since Steve's been out of town on the road a lot for work. Fall's blown in
After months of drought, it's finally raining, with expectations of something like 4" over as many days. The apartment windows are open and the air is cold, and it's been perfect sleeping weather. There are wet, colorful leaves all over the roads, which are not helping the people around here who have forgotten how to drive when Things Are Coming ( Read more... ) -
I got to ride down the stretch!
Even though it was at a big forward trot and reasonably well behaved canter, getting to go down the stretch at Laurel on MD Million day may be quite possibly the most fun thing I have ever done on a horse. Europe, here I come again!
I have the Best Boyfriend Ever. He's taking me to Paris and Rome! He'd mentioned wanting to go on a trip, and I mentioned something cheap and tropical, but he said he wanted to go to Europe, because he really hasn't ever been, except for one little trip to England when he was a kid. Cally's going to the MD MILLION!
Not to race, obviously, as she's a) not MD bred (though her damsire stands in MD) and b) sucked at it. But we're going with a group of several other CANTER horses, such as went last year, to demo former racers rehomed to new careers. Cause the bomb scare wasn't interesting enough.
No, to top it all off, poor sweet Cally blew out an enormous abcess in her right hind the other day. Which is really weird, because I had a freaking dressage lesson on Tuesday night, with my trainer and two other knowledgeable people watching, and not one of us noticed her being off at all. Yesterday was...interesting.
I was sleeping soundly at 1PM, when I hear a beeping that I'm realizing is the smoke detector, just as I'm hearing loud pounding on my door. I threw on a robe and shuffle out to open it, whereupon a policeman tells me to put on shoes and get out, now!
