I only have a "hidden" tattoo on my lower back, so no experience with it, but my opinion is that you do not want to be stuck with them there for the rest of your life. I think in 10 or 20 years if you decide to move back to a more "conservative" work environment, wearing armbands or a long sleeve shirt every day is going to get old very quickly. As far as personal taste, I don't like them on the front of forearms on women, I think it's very masculine looking. But inside might be interesting.

I know this wasn't exactly a compelling argument, but potential employers do judge by that kind of stuff and if you want to move out of what you are in now, I wouldn't.

yea i have a lower back one too. that never seems to stay hidden somehow, no matter where i work. i only had one place complain that one time when i bent over a lawyer saw it and i needed to wear longer shirts. and that was the place that pretty much convinced me if i ever decided to work in the legal industry again it wouldnt be at a large law firm.

i dont know, none of my current work plans seem like they would conflict too much. but if i move anywhere warmer i'd get somewhat annoyed with long sleeves probably. i dont know. this is why i asked people's opinions.

oh and i was totally talking inner forearm haha i always assume people will know i mean the inner arm cuz outer forearm ones are uber-manly to me...

I know my back one peeps out occassionally at work also and I get few comments. But I've caught a few surprised looks that the mean auditor has a tat.

I think it's a great idea, and you seem like someone who would be pleased with them.

As for your mom... you should only feel bad if you tattooed HER forearms.

And I you, m'dear.

I think I should save pennies in a jar to save up to visit you someday. It'd give me something to do with that life-size jar replica of an elephant I just *had* to have...

Wow... there are a lot of ways to look at this... 1) tattoos are becomming more commonplace, and while not totally acceptable in all facets of the work place, I think for the most part visible tattoos are ordinarily accepted. (I keep thinking of girls with tats on their ankles who wear panty hose and they show through... my aunt and my cousin being two of them.) However usually more professional "professions" tend not to have visible tattoos. So that's sort of like one in each column ( ... )

i keep coming back to a yes decision and then visions of my mom not talking to me for 3 months like when i first got pierced. i dont know. i agree alot with #1 since i think most workplaces are getting more accepting. and i dont know... i dont see myself at blockbuster forever (where its not acceptable anyways), but i dont see myself ever working in the kinda place that it would be a problem again. like ive been thinking about going back to the intelligence industry and in my experience there the only people they have a problem with having tattoos are the case officers (aka spies) because you can't have anything that would make you identifiable if you were in mutiple disguises all Jennifer Garner Alias style. and im never going to do that kinda work.

the other option will be to do them on my upper back below my neck or somewhere in the upper back region.

time will tell... i have a while to decide... well like a month hehe.

the only reasons i'm not having complete sleeves on my arms is because of work and my parents. i just can't get myself to do it yet.

but if you do, you have my full support! :)

haha im not getting sleeves!!! i really dont know if it's worth making my mom sad. my family is very skilled in the art of guilt tripping. if i could get over that i think i'd be ok with the work issue.

yay! i have the support of Belgium behind me now!!!

I say if you like it then go for it! I don't personally have any tattoos but if its something you really want (and I suspect you do) then why not?!

Since you are going to be putting you niece & nephew's names on there you might wanna think about future placement if you get more nieces/nephews and/or if you decide to have kids someday. If someone goes on a birthin' spree you might be stuck with a huge list on your forearms. Hee.
