You cant brush it off and wash it away..someone who has laid such an impact on your life will always be around in your memory...it has to be a decsion made up for yourself (when your ready) to leave the past in the past and just keep striving for those goals of yours and 'push comes to shove' it'll be like "oh yeah I went out with that kid"
