3rd August - thinky thoughts

I've been thinking about this for a while, but I've been stirred into action by mrstotten 's recent post querying about the definitions of gen and het and slash.

My question is, why do you / don't you read certain types of fic?

I am a shipping whore, and read gen / het / slash / femmeslash / combinations of the above - it really just depends on the writing ( Read more... )

I think I'm more like you, I read pretty much anything that interests me, which, right now, is mostly slash, but I have and do read gen and het, occasionally femslash. So, um, not good with the whys. Right now it's mostly slash 'cause of my main 'ships.

My question is, why do you / don't you read certain types of fic?I may as well admit, when I started out, I HATED het (I thought it was boring and soppy and blech), didn't 'get' femslash, and only read slash ( ... )

You know, I haven't read any femmeslash before. That's kinda weird.

I'll read anything that's well written. Even if it's not in a fandom I'm in. I've read a few SGA fics and I've never seen an episode of the show. They were well written and funny.

Basically, if it holds my attention, I'll read it, regardless of pairing or whatnot. Though pairing does help.

I just remembered..if a fic is in second person, I won't read it. It's the whole "you" thing of it that makes me think the author is telling me what to do and that makes me irrationally angry. Nobody tells me what to do.

Besides, I don't think I've read one that makes me think that the you isn't supposed to be me.

That's an interesting and excellent question. For me, it pretty much depends on the fandom and the characters involved, I won't go reading something that has characters or a pairing I don't care for unless it's incredibly well-written and it's strongly recommended by others. But even though I may only read it when the mood strikes, and that's just me personally ( ... )
