Well, one of the reasons I'm one of those nuts who loves middle schoolers is that in middle school, you can teach one subject. Like, say, Language Arts. Which I am good at.
Truthfully, I don't mind teaching it. I'm just not really very good at teaching it, though, seeing as I am so severely handicapped at math myself. I have just about every learning difference associated with math, from inability to read analog clock-faces to dyscalcula (dyslexia, but with numbers). I just hate doing it, it takes me forever, even with a calculator -- because I have symbol-identification issues and hit the wrong number or function button half the time!
It's good advice, though. I believe it was Fran Leibowitz who said, "Stand firm in your refusal to remain conscious during algebra. In real life, I assure you, there is no such thing as algebra."
