Ever since she was a child, Lucy Lane had been troubled with nightmares and a pervasive feeling of being watched and the feeling always worsened around Halloween.

She knew her dad thought her bad dreams was brought on by her mom’s leaving but Lucy had been complaining about “the scary man” since she could talk.

During the week of October 31st, Lucy’s dreams would be filled with all types of terrifying images, usually involving a creature with sharp claws hurting her dad and sister in various horrifying ways.

Children dreaming of a boogeyman was not uncommon, but Lucy’s nightmares always felt oddly specific, as if these were events that could still happen, depending on the variables.

It got to the point where she would refuse to sleep which then led to her having to see a psychologist.

Talking to a therapist did help Lucy with her anxiety but she’d never truly gotten past the sense of dread the nightmares would leave her with.

She was also unable to escape the feeling of constantly being under surveillance, like there were unseen eyes following her every move.

That was why her move to National City was so important, because it was supposed to be a fresh start.  She was going to finally get away from all of the worries from the bad memories and the darkness in Metropolis.

But someone or rather something wasn’t letting her.

Lucy tried shutting her eyes but she could still see the blood stains on the beige carpet of her living room.

The feeling off wrongness started out small:  she’d walk into her bedroom and she’d know that someone at been there.

Then little things in Lucy’s room would be moved:  the hair brush that she left on her bureau would be found in the bathroom, her coffee cup that she left on her nightstand would be on the kitchen table.

Lucy didn’t feel an ounce of guilt for feeling relieved that she wasn’t the only one experiencing weirdness in the townhouse.

Her two roommates and best friends, Lena Luthor and Kara Danvers, were also dealing with missing and damaged possessions.

“Seriously, who tore my sweater?  It looks like it was cut with scissors!”

“I could have sworn I locked my window but now the latch is broken.”

“Why are my pants stained?  Is that BLOOD!!”

Lucy looked at the calendar and knew their situation was about to get even darker.

Late October meant that Lucy’s paranoia would be cubed in it’s intensity but oddly enough, her new roommates helped keep her calm.

Lena brought her adorable pet, a black and white Burmese cat named Omar, with her and he’d fast become a favorite amongst all the girls.

Omar was often let out to wander the property-he liked to hide in the tall grass against their back fence-and he always came back when he was called.

Lucy looked uneasily at her friends, her worry for the little cat increasing as the sun went down.  There was always the possibility that Omar was already back inside but wouldn’t one of them had seen him return?

They frantically searched the property but Omar was not to be found.

As the girls walked dejectedly back towards the back door, Lucy saw a black shadow move across the window but before she could call out, Lena had already entered the house.

Her screams sent Kara and Lucy running towards their friend but they stopped short;  the poor cat had been mutilated, his organs spread all over the carpet.

The police were called, the house and property were subsequently searched but no evidence of an intruder was found.

The local news coverage reveled in the macabre nature of the story, with the report concentrating on the unwanted visitor’s killing a living creature.

Lucy shuddered at the thought of how the poor creature suffered but she was also concerned at the shadow she saw-was it a trick of the light or was it something more sinister?

And was it more worrying or less, to theorize that the stalker might not be human at all but some sort of supernatural monster?

Either way, the next couple of days were the perfect time for her to hatch a plan to finally catch the bad guy in the act.

Halloween was two nights from now; that would give them plenty of time to set a trap and stop the bad guy once and for all.

She’d share her ideas with Kara and Lena tomorrow morning, knowing her friends would be just as keen to apprehend the trespasser as she was.  Lena in particular would want to know why Omar was killed in such an awful manner.

Lucy mentally went over the best places in the house to hide their cameras, because she wanted to ensure they recorded the actual break-in.

Later that evening, in the complete dead of night, a figure shrouded in darkness materialized seemingly out of thin air, their shiny claws gleaming in the gloomy murkiness...
