snb123, I wasn't sure if there was enough DooSeob to warrant posting on
dooseob... :x
Summary:
First impressions aren't always the best impressions.
~*~*~
Junhyung hated new places.
He was a creature of habit and once he’d settled into a place, made it his own, learned all the ins and outs of it… He hated having to leave and start all over again.
This was the third training company he’d been shuffled into and he’d already gotten the impression that he was going to be getting the entire ‘you’re talented, you’re just not quite what we’re looking for’ speech again.
It didn’t exactly inspire him to try to get settled.
The buildings were different, the faces were different, the expectations were different…
The petty bitching was the same, though.
He sat by himself in the small cafeteria where trainees were expected to mingle as they ate, but teen-aged voices were always loud and even his headphones couldn’t drown out those nearest him unless he wanted to burst his ear drums. They did provide camouflage enough that he heard his own name a few times as they speculated about him.
It wasn’t the first time Junhyung had found himself the new face and most of their speculation was absolutely ridiculous. He just rolled his eyes and ignored it as he continued eating and scribbling random things in his notebook.
Technically it was supposed to be for writing lyrics, but he just wasn’t feeling it. His cousin would probably flip through it later and laugh at the inexpert caricatures of his fellow trainees.
Eventually the nearby gossipers got bored with him and switched to what sounded like more well-worn rumors.
He had no idea who they were talking about - the only name he recognized at all was Jokwon and really, who didn’t know Jokwon? - but he filed it all away for future reference.
Information was always key, even when the sources were suspect.
He finished his meal and went to throw away his trash, peripherally aware that the loudest of the trainees had quieted down.
It wasn’t until a laughing body slammed into his back and they both went sprawling that he realized the cafeteria had newcomers.
“Oh, sorry, sorry!” The boy said, still laughing as he untangled himself from Junhyung. Before he could scramble off, an older boy was picking him up and moving him away from Junhyung.
Junhyung rolled and came up ready to swing, but the culprit was tucked out of sight as his friend stepped in between them . “Hey, now, he apologized. There’s no need for any of that.”
The boy who’d knocked him down slipped his arms around the taller boy and curled close to peek around at Junhyung, looking far too pleased with himself. There wasn’t any noticeable repentance on his face. “Yah, why so quick tempered? It was an accident.”
His friend patted the hands that clasped tightly at his waist before tangling their fingers together and Junhyung’s lip curled slightly with disgust as he realized who they must be. Apparently the gossip-mongers had gotten something right after all. “This babo isn’t so good at paying attention to where he’s going.”
“Hey! Gikwang pushed me!”
Junhyung hadn’t even noticed the third boy until he cried out in protest.
“I did not!” The accused immediately pounced on his accuser, pulling him away from the older boy and getting him into a headlock easily. “You are such a liar, Seobie!”
“Doojoonie!” Yoseob twisted and wiggled, trying to get away with little success, as knuckles were rubbed mercilessly against his skull. “Help me, Doojoonie!”
Doojoon laughed at his plight, but obediently rescued him from the obviously stronger boy.
The trio completely ignored the looks they were getting as they moved off in search of food, Gikwang still trying to get at Yoseob who was taunting him while Doojoon stayed in the middle offering a barrier between them.
Junhyung hadn’t thought it possible, but they were even louder than the other trainees. He sighed and rubbed his temples. He foresaw a great amount of aspirin in his future if he stayed with this training company.
As much as he hated change, he seriously hoped the staff shuffled him off soon.
