Frustration and Determinations

So what happens when you realize that the EXTREMELY simple garter stitch rectangle shawl you've been idly working on for months has a dropped stitch halfway down? FROG IT. Unfortunately, this frogging resulted in a lump of yarn that, due to my negligence, turned into

I figured out that what happens is that I tend to either forget yarn overs or they drop off while I'm knitting them. Plus the yarn I'm using is 2-ply that tends to split, and my needles are blunt plastic.

Thanks for the suggestions :) I'm almost done now (over twice what these photos show), but I'll keep them in mind. :)
