I have NEVER heard of any sports team doing this (from the Hawks forum that I just HAD to go look at...):

Who the heck thought that staggering the onsale dates for sections of the season was a good idea??

Both the Dub and the NHL have done staggered sales -- but only two sets usually. I had to buy my Leafs/Canucks tickets for the game that I went to in Toronto last Feb in Jan, because individual game tickets for anything end of Jan-end of season didn't go on sale till Jan 10 last year. And I bought Sasky's Silvertips tickets for Nov of last year in Oct because they weren't on sale earlier. Obnoxious, but not unheard of.

However, this schedule of release is a bit over the top.

I don't follow the NHL so I've just never heard of it before, and it blew me away. I know the Hawks have never done it, at least not since I've been buying tickets myself. As if one onsale date isn't hard enough to remember sometimes, they expect people to remember SIX?
