Not Getting Out Much These Days

Almost three weeks ago, I slipped on rainy back steps and my feet went out from under me. I managed to land in a way that twisted both knees really, really do not like to be twisted. (Elise is fairly certain that I dislocated one kneecap for a bit...) madrobins  and elisem  were both here (we were watching the Oscars), and had me on ( Read more... )

Long walks are overrated. Besides, with global warming looming, we should all start preparing ourselves for long swims, which are much kinder to the knees.

Take care of yourself, and if you still feel shitty at WisCon, you can count on me for at least one round of numbing alcohol.

I'm thinking we should have little badges or something: "Reluctant Member of the Halt and Lame Brigade", or "BodyFail '09."

Perhaps tomorrow one of us can visit the other (if the Spouse provides transportation) and we can drink something numbing. Feel better.

Overwhelmning compulsion to give advice about knees! Oh no! Waaaugh!

I think everyone with legs should endeavor to have knees.

Preferably knees that bend in the appropriate direction but not in inappropriate directions.

Augh, knees!

I send you wishes for swift healing, much less pain and inflammation (I write about this stuff for a living), and a lot of good company and numbing agents.

The Universe seems to be resorting to less elegant ways to get people to listen to it lately...

Heard about that. I'm sorry it happened. Meant to be on the west coast this month, but I don't get out that much lately either.

I was just thinking, on my long walk, as I do every day, that I have too many friends who can't take long walks, and then some kozmic karmic something or nother fuzzy thinking.

I was just beginning to think I should pick up all this trash that I see along my route, every bit of it, and then I kicked a beer bottle across the grass and my back went very bad indeed for a few blocks. My PT would say some things about abduction/adduction and small supporting muscles. Came home and lay down flat on the floor. Yoga. Better now.

Ability and disability are kind of provisional. Fortunately there are lots of fun things to do lying down here in the future.
