Art and I went down to Williamstown and stayed at CB's place with a bunch of '01 and '02-ers. General goodness ensued, including indoctrination of several more people into RoboRally, oatmeal raisin cookies,
mhorai 's birthday cake, playing with kitties, frisbee golf, and the victory (once and always) of the band. I stocked up on hugs for the next few months, and I was pretty glad I did later...
We left early on Sunday morning to get home. Art had a concert 1 1/2 hours away, and I had a dress rehearsal for my concert. The dress rehearsal went really well; we had the string quartet for the first time and things sound really good.
The bad stuff happened after we got to sleep Sunday night. We woke up a little before 1 am, and we heard a car horn sounding. It didn't stop, and I heard a woman yelling. We got up and went outside, and there had been an accident. A woman (the police say she was probably drunk) drove a pickup truck over the yellow line, over my neighbor's driveway, through their fence and the bush between our properties, through two traffic signs, our mailbox, and (luckily) managed to get back onto the road right before the guardrail for the bridge. I think she hit the guardrail and flipped the truck (there was random stuff in our lawn, and the front of the cab was all banged in). She seemed okay, but there was a passenger who was thrown through the windshield. They were talking about having to airlift him out, but he ended up going in an ambulance. I think we had about 5 volunteer fire fighters, 2 or 3 state police cars, the ambulance, a fire truck, and the tow truck, right in front of our house. They were done cleaning up and we went back to bed a little after two, but it was really scary, and I had a hard time getting back to sleep. This is where I used up a lot of my stored friend hugs.
This week, we have to put a new mailbox up, finish cleaning up the trash and car parts in our yard, and sweep up more of the broken glass that the cleanup people pushed into our yard. I have relatives coming to visit on Saturday. Then, the next week is going to be crazy -- two extra prayer services, then driving to NJ on Thursday.
