I was actually pretty unsocial while I was in Mpls -- I thought about calling a couple of people, but I didn't end up calling anyone.
Here are my humble attempts at making an icon for you. Let me know if there's something else you'd like for me to try instead. The third one is the picture itself, with no attempt at enhancing the colors or sharpening it or anything.
It's probably just as well that you didn't call. I was busier than hell the whole time. Still, hope I get a chance to see you again sometime in the near future!
OMG! I think I have SEEN that postcard! IIRC, one of the Amish fellas I drive for has it posted in his office. We had a lively discussion about where it came from - do you know what area is represented in the picture? What state? I always thought it looked so...Universal, it could be anywhere. He says Indiana, 'cause the horses are smaller :-))
I know EXACTLY where it was taken. That was on my grandparents' farm (in fact, I was walking around in that field on Christmas day), which is in Sandstone, Minnesota. And those are the Belgians, which are draft horses, but yes, they are smaller draft horses.
I've loved that painting for a long, long time. Last year, my grandmother gave my mother and my aunt prints of it, and I was SOOO jealous!
I was thirteen when my grandfather died, and what I remember the most about him was the sleigh rides and that horse talk was one of our main points of bonding.

(PS. Would you like an icon made of the scan? It would be pretty easy to do. . .)

And sorry we missed you while you were in MN!
