Hey, hang on. Kai. KAI!
I woke up and found myself in a car with Aoi and Uruha. Uruha was on the passenger seat and Aoi sat beside me in the backseat. They didn’t seem to notice that I had woken up as they continued talking.
That’s right, I thought as I recalled the events early, early this morning. Just like Uruha predicted, Waka’s henchmen hijacked every one of Shoto’s security posts. Not knowing this, all of the guys from Mizer House barged in right through the front door and simply knocked out every guard that got in the way. They came just in time to save me and Nao from being murdered.
Or so we thought.
Uruha showed Waka a used bullet (so that was what he was holding in his hand when we were in the train), and for some reason, she just freaked out. Uruha didn’t take the bullet off her face, and her screaming stopped only when she passed out. Shortly after Waka fainted, we found out that the guns Waka and her henchmen had were all unloaded. We then found out that Waka had an extreme phobia of bullets or any form of ammunition. That explained why Uruha was so damn confident that none of us were gonna die that night, no matter how fucking scary things got.
I only remembered an extremely relieved Nao shaking my shoulders and a bunch of guys patting my back. They were all telling me that everything was okay before I passed out. I suppose they thought it would be a pain in the ass to drag an unconscious body all the way back to the dorm in a train, so the car I was in was probably one of the cars that Uruha’s family owned.
Everyone’s safe, I thought as I closed my eyes, trying to get back to sleep. I did need sleep; last night was a fucking rough night. It was shocking how Aoi and Uruha were still talking, not sounding the least bit tired, considering they went through quite a lot of shit through this ordeal - definitely more than I did, anyway.
“Aoi,” I heard the head resident say. “Look. I’m sorry.”
“For what?” The student council president retorted. “That psychosis runs in your family? You and I both know that’s not your fault, Uruha.”
Uruha let out a soft laugh. “Well, it kinda was my fault that Waka became the special case she is,” he said. “Before I passed out when she shot me years ago, I pulled the bullet out of my chest with my bare hands. She couldn’t stand looking at bullets after that.”
What the fuck, I wouldn’t be able to look at bullets either. At least not without freaking out and pissing my pants, I thought. After hearing that, Waka seemed normal compared to Uruha.
“I am shocked, but there’s something I want to say,” Aoi uttered.
“Yeah?”
“Sustaining a gunshot wound and coming back from the dead twice the bitch,” the brunette replied. “You as the Bride from Kill Bill. I can’t un-see it.”
“Fuck you.”
Aoi chuckled in response. I would have laughed with him if I didn’t feel so drained. I would have laughed out of relief that everyone was safe. I would have laughed at the idea that Uruha could have very easily kicked Aoi’s ass out of his car, but decided not to. I would have laughed at the realization that they didn’t hate each other as much as I thought they did.
I smiled as Aoi and Uruha continued arguing. Aoi said something about Uruha wearing a yellow tracksuit, but with groin-level shorts instead of pants. Then Uruha retorted, saying he’d do it if Aoi wore a schoolgirl costume and swung a mace over his head and not bean himself with it.
It seemed that they had completely forgotten about their past, about their huge fight back when they were freshmen. Now they just bickered because…well, they enjoyed it. They were simply used to the feeling of not being able to stand each other. Much like I had grown used to waking up finding Byou’s naked male models in our dorm room, these two had grown used to throwing each other snarky remarks.
There were a few seconds of silence before Aoi spoke. “Seriously, Uruha,” he said. “Thanks.”
“Seriously, Aoi,” Uruha answered. “You could have easily escaped on your own.”
Yeah. Considering that the kidnappers were actually unarmed and Aoi’s bruises apparently weren’t from Waka or her men but from kendo practice, Aoi definitely would have gotten out of there by himself. Uruha knew this well. I felt bad for underestimating Aoi’s strength.
“But it was so amusing how your sister thought I was your best friend,” The brunette replied. “I just needed to watch. I didn’t expect you to get there so fucking fast.”
“You thought it was amusing,” the blonde sighed, “but the little turd sleeping beside you didn’t.”
I kept my eyes closed, pretending to be asleep, as I felt both men glance at me. Yeah, I probably deserved that remark. Although I’ve already apologized and he said it was okay, Uruha was probably still pissed off that I slugged him in the face because I couldn’t calm the fuck down.
“Poor kid. I really worried him, didn't I?”
“Him and everyone else, jackass.”
“You? Worried? Doesn’t equate, Uruha.”
“Well, I didn't give a shit, but Kai was pretty fucking persistent.”
It was true. If I listened to Uruha and trusted that he knew Waka well enough to know that she wasn’t capable of killing, then we wouldn’t have gone through all the trouble of coming to save Aoi when he didn’t need it.
“He's such a good guy. He’s a great friend.”
“He is. No wonder that guy’s in love with him.”
I was touched that they thought I was a good person, and that Aoi appreciated my concern for him, and…wait. WHAT? Drowsiness left my body instantly. I was left with just shock. A guy’s in love with me?
“Oh, come on, Uruha, you can’t be sure about that,” Aoi said. “All he did was…”
Aoi cut his sentence, as if pausing to think. What? WHAT?
“Yeah, he did panic when Kai passed out, didn’t he?” The brunette chortled. I kept my eyes closed and continued pretending to be asleep, in case Aoi or Uruha were looking at me. I breathed a small sigh of relief. These bastards were blowing it completely out of proportion. That can’t be an indicator that I had an admirer; it’s normal to panic when someone passes out.
Right?
“Everyone was too busy crowding around Kai and yelling for him to wake the fuck up,” Uruha chortled. “I think you and I were the only ones who noticed that he refused to let go of Kai’s hand while I checked for a pulse.”
“Kept on asking you if Kai was gonna be okay too,” Aoi added. “Yeah, he likes Kai, alright.”
Damn.
Both seniors stayed quiet while I kept trying to look like I was still knocked out. Questions, questions, and more questions rushed through my head. Who could it have been? There was absolutely no one in mind. I couldn’t think of anyone who I would have guessed had an iota of interest in me. Okay, there was Byou, but that man-whore was interested in everyone. And even he would tell me from time to time that I looked like shit.
“Do you think he’ll tell Kai soon?”
“Knowing him, yeah, he would.”
“What do you think will happen if and when he tells Kai?”
Silence. Even I didn’t know what the hell would happen if a guy approached me and professed his love for me. About the only love confession I’ve ever had was in preschool, and that poor girl had been practically forced by her mother to say she liked me. I didn’t know how to react at the time, so a confession right now, from a guy, I must note, was gonna be pretty fucking alarming, I imagined.
Fatigue quickly swept over me again. The seniors’ words seemed more and more distant, but still clear enough for my steadily deteriorating coherence to process.
“Kai would jump him.”
“Wanna wager on that?”
“You’re on.”
Fantastic. I gave Aoi and Uruha a mental one-finger salute as my consciousness fell flat on its face, and everything went black.
A/N: About time Kai gets a suggested pair, yeah? Who do you think is it? :D
