from everthing i've heard, it's better to write to suit yourself at the beginning, rather than trying to write to get published. Eventually someone will like one of your works and you get in without all the messy burnout and resentment. I'd also suggest avoiding the vanity presses, as tempting as it might (eventually) be; an actual publishing house will count it as a mark against your portfolio. I think the library in ashland publishes a little literary journal and i suspect that ACC might as well- the Jesse Stewart Foundation has one too, but i think they prefer fiction as opposed to fantasty, and Kentucky fiction above all

I fully intend to write for myself, anything that will be altered for publishing purposes is purely stylistic and maybe a touch of grammar, but I don't care to much about the style, and I need to watch my grammar anyways. Heck, I wince when I read my own paragraph-sentences.

I of course realize that the chimp article is more of a comparitive nature, most of my comment was of a late night asinine nature. Though I do find it interesting that an adaptation that leads to a better chance of propagation of the species can also make the species more susceptible to things such as cancer. Something like that's probably obvious to someone with a decent amount of knowledge in biology... but I'm really in a basic level with biology, never was very good at it.

Another factor that may well play a huge part is that chimps don't, to the best of my knowledge, smoke three packs a day or have unhealthy urges to spend massive amounts of money on tanning beds. Not unless they're very insecure.
