Buttery Brat

Gave Butter a bath last night -- she was so soft once she was dry, that you almost couldn't even feel her fur. Like spun air. And I have to say, there's something delightful about seeing "Butter Bath" in your list of things to do ( Read more... )

Zoe is also so lucky, to have such a great place and people/puppy to have playdates with! Far better than just a dogpark romp -- she gets YOU, and lots of attention, and your praise!

Butter Bath. I love it!

If you put it on your to-do list as "Wash Butter," and leave it lying in public somewhere, someone might think you're a tad...weird? ;-)

True. I mean, I scrub all my cheese, of course, but washing butter? That's just ridiculous!
(I'm joking about the cheese.)
T and I have realized that we need to come up with a different term for the actual substance of butter, so as not to confuse the dog when, say, we're eating corn on the cob and need to ask to pass the butter. So far, we've come up with"Dairy Spread," "Churnfruit," and the least favorite, "Churnturd." And, of course, there's also our other new term, "Solidified Peanut Oils" or "Peanut Spread" instead of Peanutbutter. Naming your dog "Butter" does complicate things. Though just imagine if we had stuck with Toaster as her name: "Honey, did you remember to unplug the Electric Bread Browning Device?"

And yet it would on occasion be so apt to say "We need to unplug the Toaster before we try to go to sleep..."

Our dog class teacher with Meg told us not to change our language for the dog; she said that dogs can tell when you're talking to them and when you're just talking. She was kind of a stickler for not letting your dog make the rules, and we did think she was a little over the top lots of times, but in fact we talk normally (such as it is!) using words like "park" and "walk" and "out" and "breakfast" and "sit" and "stay" in regular conversation without creating any big disturbance. We even refer to "zoe" in conversation and while she might raise her head to see if its something she should know, she doesn't seem confused.

And I'm so glad our kids are playing so well together!! You're the best auntie a dog could hope for!

Good advice. Though I was looking forward to startling a dinner guest someday by asking them if they wanted any Churnturd with their bread...

And thank you -- we're very lucky to have both of you and Zoe next door.
