Gen is doing what he does best. He's translating. Though usually he translates aloud, for another person. But now he is sitting in the library, with several dictionaries, a few assorted reference works, and Le Comte de Monte-Cristo. The library contains it in English and French, but not yet in Japanese. And though he's not much of a writer, it ( Read more... )

Linden does not particularly like people, despite his pretences to the contrary, but he does love reading and learning and everything that can be offered by the written word, which is why he's come to the library yet again to trade in his stack of books and find a new one. He rests his cane against one of the shelves and begins to read through titles silently.

Gen notices him; he notices most things. He then realizes he is currently taking up most of the table, and begins consolidating his materials a bit.

The movement catches Linden's attention, and he looks around apologetically. "I beg your pardon. I didn't realise you were here."

What a strange coincidence! Bilbo is also doing translations, though of a decidedly different sort of language. Elvish is fascinating and the more of it he learns, the more of their stories and poems that he wants to translate into the common tongue. It's hard work since he is nowhere near fluent in the language yet, but Mr. Baggins takes great pleasure in it. If Gen may ever wonder what is behind the abnormally large pile of books at the other end of the table, he may just find one extraordinarily happy hobbit.

After many hours of translation, he gets up, stretching a bit, forcing himself to move. He doesn't speak to the hobbit, not wanting to break his concentration, but smiles a bit as he glances at him.
