bittergourd dropped the remake bomb on us yesterday with the announcement that Peter Berg has signed on to direct the new film version of Frank Herbert's Dune. Needless to say, the idea of the man behind The Kingdom and The Rundown directing a film adaptation of a novel that has confounded film makers such as David Lynch and (some would say) John Harrison is ( Read more... )

Please remake Battlefield Earth or Jersey Girl.

Remake them with puppets, animated thumb digits, talking genitilia, anything.

Other movies for the 'please don't remake' list:
Eraserhead
Brazil
Any Monte Python movie
M.A.S.H. the movie
The Dark Backward
Dark Crystal

Can you imagine a Dark Crystal remake by Michael Flatley? I can and it's scaring my a little.

Actually I would watch "Showgirls 2010", but only if it did a "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" take on the movie. I can totally see Hugh Jackman playing Cristal to Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Nomi. Hell, the actual character names sound like drag names already so why not?

Put Elizabeth Berkeley in the Kyle MacLachlan role, too, for a real gender-power reversal. (She's not doing much of anything, considering she's taking bit parts on CSI:Miami these days. Which I am watching, because I can watch Elizabeth Berkeley do pretty much anything for an hour.)

I was thinking we should have Christian Bale just to make it extra poignant during the pool scene, but a woman could work.

I'm saving my Berkeley remake card for Gia!

While the idea of this horrifies me somewhat, I must admit to being curious about how they will work a Jennifer Connelly nude scene into the plot. She seems to get naked in pretty much everything these days so I'm just assuming it's in her rider.

Remakes horrify me so much. There's a reason the original was quirky, live with it! Ok, maybe not that stubborn, but maybe *most* remakes shouldn't be made. And sequels ( ... )

Too late:

Death Race 3000 with Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson is set for release in September of 2008.

The movie or the actual events portrayed fictionalized in the movie? I ask because it could be argued we're all pretty much extras on a remake of Citizen Kane as we speak.

It seems like every Hunt-the-Gowk the movie board sites are inundated with articles about some one remaking Citizen Kane. I think the "best" was one that actually began making the blog rounds about David Lynch trying his hand at it.

Be prepared for similar articles this year listing it as a George Clooney project with Phillip Seymour Hoffman to play Kane.
