Previous Chapter.

Ryo patiently lets Yoko explain the whole story and he is far from amused by it and it amazes him how un-serious Yoko seem to be about the whole situation. Meanwhile Ohkura is trying to get attention from either of them by rolling around on the floor, alternating with prodding his head against Ryo’s and Yoko’s legs.

“…Then Ohkura drove me out and went to sleep, at least that’s what I guess he did, I mean, I can’t know for sure that he went to sleep, but anyway that’s the last I saw of him and before now I didn’t even know that the hypnosis actually worked. Isn’t it amazing?” There was a glimmer in the older man’s eyes as he stopped talking and Ryo felt like he had to make Yokoyama snap out of it, or help him he would have a hard time keeping himself from doing something he usually just did against Jin; make him regret being born stupid and clueless.

“You do realize how serious this is!?” He glares at the other man, trying not to sound too offending. “Ohkura has been gone for several days and NOW you come forth and tell me that YOU are the one responsible for this whole…” He searches for a proper word. “Mess!” Yoko did look slightly ashamed, but then he came out and said something Ryo had had a hard time with admitting since Ohkura’s stay in his house had begun. Something he has put away in the back of his head, doing his best to ignore the thought completely.

“Well, if he’s been here the whole time, why didn’t you tell us? Then I actually would have known that it worked, and maybe this could have all been solved sooner… So Ryo-chan. Why didn’t you tell us?” It is a hard question and Ryo doesn’t feel like answering it. He has known all along that the best thing to do would be to tell the other members, but instead he has lied and kept Ohkura to himself. And the worst part is that he knew that it wasn’t the best way to deal with it, he had simply wanted Ohkura to himself. Somewhere he enjoyed being alone with the drummer, even if he wasn’t his usual self.

It is a hard truth to admit to, but Ryo knows why he had acted so selfish and kept the secret to himself. It was very simple, yet very complicated. He has feelings for his friend that he can’t quite explain. It is the feeling of being nervous and happy about simply being together with Ohkura and when he is together with him, even if he is acting like an animal, it makes Ryo feel special. Ohkura needs him, and he had come to need Ohkura too. It was feelings that had stirred up more clearly since he had taken Ohkura in to his apartment, but the beginning of it all, if Ryo was to be honest to himself, must have been several months ago. He briefly wonders when his feeling for the younger member had transformed into another kind of love.

“Well?” Ryo was swept out of his thoughts as Yoko still stood there waiting for some reply. Unconsciously he scratched his cheek.

“I don’t know. I guess I should have. I guess… I didn’t want to worry you guys.” Ryo lies, but he can’t just blurt out that he has feelings for Ohkura. He just realized it moments ago, he wasn’t ready for dealing with such complicated feelings just yet. There were other far worse things to deal with first.

“Well, I guess Yasu would get sick of worry, so I’m not blaming you.” The smile Yoko gives him this time makes Ryo feel a lot better than the earlier one and he is glad that his excuse is accepted so easily, though a part of him feels like he doesn’t deserve it.

“But how do we get him back?” The smile is gone in seconds, and even though Ryo hopes his friend is joking he doesn’t find it funny at all. “What do you mean?” Surely Yoko must know how to reverse the process. If not, why would he risk trying in the first place?

Ryo walks up and grabs the other man’s shoulders. “Are you saying you don’t know how to break it? Is there no way to un-hypnotize him? Yokoyama-kun?! Please tell me you’re kidding!” He really wishes that the other was just joking, but he can tell that he isn’t.

When Yoko shakes his head Ryo’s mind seems to stop for a moment. Ohkura might never be Ohkura again. The thought is frightening and it’s not until now Ryo had actually felt there’s no way out of this situation. Not until this moment had he actually felt truly scared that things would never be the same. He can’t even imagine never getting to meet Ohkura again and he can feel himself starting to lose it. Thankfully Ohkura gives his hand a lick and he returns to reality, crashing down to meet Ohkura’s seemingly happy brown orbs expectantly looking at him.

Ryo bends down to sit on his knees and grabs Ohkura’s head, holding him carefully between his hands. Feeling close to tears, he has to concentrate not to let them spill, absentmindedly letting his hands run through the silky hair. There’s a hint of confusion in Ohkura’s eyes, he doesn’t seem to realize what’s wrong and gives Ryo a sad expression and a comforting lick, trying to make his master happier.

“He doesn’t even know he’s not supposed to be like this.” It was a sad truth that Ryo hadn’t given much thought until now. Yoko sits down next to them and puts a hand on Ryo’s shoulder, it’s warm.

“We haven’t given up yet. We can get Ohkura back, I promise Ryo-chan. This is my fault to begin with, and I swear that I won’t let it end like this.” The words were genuine and it got Ryo out of his sad thoughts. Yoko was right, they couldn’t give up now. He stares into Ohkura’s bright eyes. “I promise we will get you back.”

Ohkura seems happy, but Ryo suspects that it’s more because his master doesn’t seem depressed any longer and not for the reason of being promised his normality back. In a try to collect his mind Ryo takes a deep breath and closes his eyes. He can feel Ohkura blowing warm puffs of air on his cheek and he feels how his desperation transforms into motivation.

“Let’s do this.” Yoko nods and they sit down by the kitchen table to discuss possible strategies. For hours they sit and Ohkura has since long fallen asleep when Yoko finally says something that Ryo feels might work, though he’s a little reluctant. “Why don’t we just call an expert on the matter? I mean, it’s not good for outsiders to find out, but wouldn’t it be worse to never get Ohkura back to normal?” Yes, of course. The answer is obvious in Ryo’s head when the options are put up against each other like this, and he wishes that he could have thought this way since the beginning, that way maybe everything would have been solved by now.

“Okay, but who?” A crooked smile adorns Yoko’s features and Ryo’s feeling of reluctance returns in that instant. “Well, I thought that before we involve any outsiders, maybe we could let the expert on the inside have a go first?” Ryo had no idea what that was supposed to mean. Who on earth was this guy “on the inside” he was talking about?

With Ryo looking like a question mark Yoko gave a deep sigh. “It’s obvious isn’t it? Who IN THE COMPANY knows the most about this kind of stuff?” The sentence didn’t make anything clearer for Ryo and he wished that the other man would just tell him already.

“This kind of stuff?” By repeating it he had clearly expected Ryo to get it. Now Yoko has an expression close to annoyance and that in turn has Ryo feeling even more agitated himself, how was anyone supposed to understand just who the hell Yoko was referring to?

“You know: MAGIC!” Pressing extra hard on the last word a small light was starting to flicker somewhere in Ryo’s head. Yoko couldn’t be meaning…

“Ninomiya-kun?” He hesitantly asked, feeling a little stupid, but seeing the face on the other side of the table lit up he realizes that it was exactly who he had meant. He let the thought sink in for a while, and it still seemed a little weird to call the Arashi member for help.

“Are you sure, just because he likes to do card tricks, it doesn’t exactly make him an expert.” Instantly a hurt expression crept over Yoko’s face. “Well, I just thought that it might be better to ask him first…You know, instead of letting some stranger know about it…” It actually made him feel slightly guilty.

“I guess. At least it should be better than doing nothing.” The excitement returns to the other man. “Right? That’s what I thought! Should we call him now then?” Already fishing up his phone, Ryo reaches across the table to stop him. “Wait!”

A confused look meets him as Yoko had already started to look for the right number amongst his many contacts. Ryo pulls back, realizing the reaction must have seemed a little out of place. “It’s late you know, I think it’s better if we wait until tomorrow.” It only makes sense, doing it tomorrow was definitely the better choice, all of them having more energy and not having to disturb their senpai in the middle of the night. Yoko seemed to be giving it a thought. “Maybe you’re right. It is very late. Besides we still have work tomorrow. I’ll call Nino in the morning and then we’ll come over to your place after we’re done working.” It sounded like a good plan, and Ryo nods in agreement. Yoko got up from his seat, making a sound which was enough to wake the sleeping Ohkura up, letting out a big yawn as he stretches his long limbs.

“I’ll be going then… I’ll see you tomorrow. I’m sure it will all go well.” A reassuring smile, a squeezing hand on the shoulder and a pat on Ohkura’s head later, the older man was out of the apartment, leaving the remaining two alone in the hallway. And as sudden as Yoko left a feeling of exhaustion hits him.

It has been another long day and Ryo quickly gets ready for bed, also helping Ohkura relive himself before they both jump into the comfortable bed; Ryo crawling in under the covers while Ohkura finds a comfortable position snuggling close to Ryo’s stomach. It feels good to simply lie down.

However, sleep doesn’t come to him, even if he can feel the tiredness, his brain doesn’t seem to be able to relax. There’s so much flying around between his ears and after failing severely to calm his nerves Ryo sits up, having given up on sleep for now. The other man in the bed seems to be awake too, not all that strange considering he had been sleeping for a good three hours before Yoko went home, though Ohkura usually sleeps a lot. Ohkura lifts up his head to look at his still very much awake caretaker and Ryo looks back.

A nervous feeling is filling inside of his stomach, and something Jin had said, seems to be stuck amongst all his thoughts. With Ohkura lying calmly only a short distance away the idea makes his mouth go dry. What if it actually works? It was insane, and he had been annoyed with Jin for even suggesting it before, but at the moment it didn’t seem as farfetched. Maybe his tiredness was responsible for that?

Being perfectly still, and also unbelievably attractive Ryo can’t help but to get drawn in by the other man. He retreats from under his covers, slowly getting closer, feeling his heart rate picking up in speed Ryo swallows nervously. For some reason Ohkura has yet to move a muscle and it all adds to Ryo’s gut clenching as they were now only a few centimeters apart. Their breaths mingling and their eyes meeting, time seems to have stopped momentarily, before Ryo slowly closes his eyelids shut, tilting his head slightly to the side before he leans in to close the last distance between them.

He can feel his heartbeat pounding and the softness of Ohkura’s lips is unbelievable. It’s just their mouths being pressed together, but the feeling is indescribable. For a moment it feels as if Ohkura is about to return the kiss by deepening it, and Ryo wonders if it all might actually have worked. Then a sudden move throws him off, the trance is broken and even though Ryo can feel Ohkura’s tongue on his mouth it is far from what he had wished for. It was very much still the licking of a dog, rather than a kiss from Ohkura.

Pushing the other away he can’t help but to feel stupid. Of course it hadn’t worked; he had told Jin that it wouldn’t so how could he possibly expect that it would. It had been a gamble, and honestly he probably expected it to fail, the main reason why he did it was of another kind. It was like he had been drawn in and there had been nothing he could do to stop himself, mostly because he had not really wanted to stop.

Somehow he is feeling scared, excited and disappointed at the same time, his curiosity and need playing out against his guilt. Knowing perfectly well that he shouldn’t have kissed him, he couldn’t help but to replay the moment of their lips touching, remembering the warmth of Ohkura. But in the end it had failed, and nothing has changed.

Now Ryo has new thoughts occupying his mind, and if even possible they make it even harder for him to go back to sleep.

When the next day comes, it feels like he hasn’t slept at all, though in reality it is probably closer to three hours. Ohkura is still there beside him, sleeping peacefully, and Ryo once again lets last night’s happening play in his mind. Maybe that will be the closest he’ll ever get to be with Ohkura.

The thought stings him, but today hopefully being the day Ohkura returns, he doesn’t let it linger for too long. More than anything he just wants his friend back. “Today will be the last day, and then everything will be okay again.”

Quickly getting up the tiredness is as washed away and when he’s done and ready to go, it’s still a good fifteen minutes before the manager will come and pick him up. He sits down to watch the news, but is soon interrupted by Ohkura climbing up on his lap. Pushing himself against Ryo, clearly not pleased with his ‘owner’s’ lack of attention.

Not being prepared Ryo almost falls off the furniture, Ohkura also being a lot stronger and heavier than he is, he can feel the air getting pushed out of him. “Tacchon, calm down. You’ll end up killing me!” The enthusiastic man doesn’t stop, but when Ryo starts petting Ohkura he seems to get calmer, and when he tries to push him back Ryo finally succeeds in getting the weight off of his stomach, drawing a needed breath.

Ohkura chooses that moment to jump down completely and bites playfully at the leg of Ryo’s jeans. “Oi!” It seems that Ohkura thinks it’s time to play, and even though the image of Ohkura biting at the hem of his leg is a little odd, he soon turns into play mode too.

He reaches out for Ohkura, but he dodges, letting Ryo know that this wont’s be easy. Running off Ryo is surprised at how fast Ohkura is able to move down on all four. The chase starts, and Ryo runs after a happy Ohkura, running slow enough not to catch the other immediately. Soon he got Ohkura in a corner, and he attacks, pushing a struggling Ohkura against the wall, before they both fall into a bundle on the floor.

It is then their manager, Kusano, decides to call to announce his arrival and after avoiding the disappointed eyes of Ohkura, he is out of the apartment and inside the company car. He’s glad that Kusano-san decides not to ask why he’s sweaty and out of breath.

He doesn’t meet Yokoyama until that afternoon and when he finally does he gets an announcement that makes him slightly disappointed.

“I called Nino earlier, it seems he’s on a location shoot and won’t be back until tomorrow.” Yoko gives a sad smile, but seeing Ryo’s reaction he quickly changes his expression before he tries to cheer him up. “But he’s coming tomorrow, and we don’t have anything on the afternoon, so that’s good. I haven’t really told him the exact situation yet, so I thought we could all meet up for lunch tomorrow before going back to you.” Ryo nods, managing to smile a little; he had really hoped it would all resolve today. At least Ninomiya will be there tomorrow, surely he can manage one more day.

After that Ryo simply goes into waiting, going through the script of Janiben, having a photo shoot for his drama and then back to the studio to actually record Janiben, without Ohkura this week.

The other members were seemingly more on edge after so many days without a word from their youngest. But together with Yokoyama, the two of them manage to convince the members of the sickness Ohkura seem to have contracted, making it hard for him to speak. “But he looks a lot better, so I bet he’s fit for fight soon enough.” Yoko smiled and the problem was for now evaded.

They had decided not to tell the others until tomorrow, having two different patterns of explanations ready depending on Ohkura’s condition after Ninomiya’s visit. Ryo was convinced that they would be able to show a perfectly fine and normal Ohkura by this time next day.

It was only one more day. One more day and everything would be fine.

Chapter 6, and you've been waiting for a long time again... Sorry. I'm so busy working that the few days I have off I spend them doing things I like cleaning my room or meeting friends. I don't have that much free time in front of the computer. Also before I started working I had this idea that I would finish the KoyaShige fic I'm working on in time to Shige's B-day. Obviously i didn't make it... So then I left that and went back to Master of a Mutt. I hope this chapter is ok, and that you haven't waited in wain.

Please tell me what you think of the development of this story. Did I get the characters right?
