hello, I just randomly clicked your post and found it to be a refreshing tonic to the bizarre comments written about Ramadan. Why so much hate from ppl? It's obviously easier to type vicious things in the safety of being behind a computer screen.

Anyways, your post was most enlightening. Experiencing Ramadan in a muslim country must be a wonderful thing. I hope you enjoy your stay in Turkey.

I can only assume it's ignorance. When people are used to being the majority, they take advantage of the fact that other people exist!

I almost didn't post this because of those people, so thank you for your kind words!

I hope you have a lovely month, whether fasting or not.

I agree with your answer 100%. I have no experience with Ramadan and so wasn't going to answer and to hate someone just because they are difference is ridiculous. I've been on the receiving end of hateful sentiments for my beliefs, so I know from experience.

I liked what you had to say. What a wonderful experience you've had.

Thank you. As I said above, I almost didn't post this because of those hateful people.. it's nice to have support!

It's such a shame that there is so much hate in this world. We're all so different and all have so much to learn from each other. I don't understand the desire to shut people out or ridicule them for their beliefs.

I'm sorry that you had to experience hate. I do hope you never have to again!

I always show support for someone who sees differences as worthwhile. I've always found them to be an intricate part of the world's beauty and I love learning about them. Yes, it is a huge shame there is so much hatred:( Hate is a wasted emotion that only hurts. People who hate, especially those who hate without knowledge, miss out on soooo much.

Thank-you:) I'm sure I will experience it again. At times I do find that I have to hide what I am for fear of discrimination ( i.e. my job). For some, I may explain a bit about what I am but I don't waste much breath or worry on those people who judge first.. Besides, maybe their experience with me, combined with other events, will lead them to review their thoughts and help make things better, to lead them to at least tolerance. You never know:)

I hope your path brings you nothing but happiness:)

this is the truth! I hope someday they can get past their discomfort and their hate. the world is so beautiful! if only they'd accept that.

I hope you can find a place where you never have to hide yourself. I have friends who are going through similar situations, though for a variety of reasons. discrimination is such a sad thing. maybe someday we can be free of discrimination and simply accept people for who and what they are.

you have a great attitude! I hope your path brings you the same =)

Same to you; it's a pleasure to not have to hear how "creepy" I am or how I ought to eat some ham. Thank /you/ for being open minded!

Thank you.

I think that people of every faith (or lack thereof) can learn tremendously from each other. You don't have to believe in order to appreciate! It's nice that someone else understands this =)

I think that if more people tried to learn for themselves (outside of what they've heard on Fox news, as you say!), they'd find that Muslims aren't quite as wacky as they originally had thought.

thanks for your comment!

Sorry to randomly nose in on your journal, but I just wanted to thank you for posting this story. There are so many ignorant posts for this writers block, I was really happy to stumble across one that was actually enlightening.

Hope you're enjoying your time in Turkey. It must be amazing to get to throw yourself into a brand new culture like that!

Don't apologize! I posted this so that people could read and comment.

I was surprised at the ignorance in the answers and felt that SOMEONE needed to make a meaningful post. Thank you for your kind comment.

Turkey is wonderful. Have you ever been? I was lucky enough to have lived here before, so it's not entirely brand new to me.. but no matter how well I think I know the country and the culture here, I'm constantly learning something new. I think many people would benefit from spending time in another culture like this. Not only do you learn about your new host culture, but you also learn tremendous amounts about your own culture. It's really eye opening!
