Gerda and I have just returned from a fabulous holiday in Matheran. Matheran is a tiny little town on top of some hills near Mumbai. Last Tuesday I participated in one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen! Laughter Yoga. (you tube it) It was a lot of fun! We did about 20 different 'exercises' in half an hour. everything from the 'mobile phone' ('dial' ten digits in th palm of your hand, pick up the phone and laugh!) to the motorbike (pretend to kick start it three ( Read more... )

Yesterday we hd lunch at the hard rok cafe in Pune. Not my first choice but others were going and I really wanted a steak. We had some difficulty finding it - its hidden down a side road outside of town past fields of cows etc.. and inside a resort - but we got there eventually. This week at school we are doing a bunch of different things. We are going to talk about Canada and Sweden - but this will have to mostly be a discussion using the teacher who's good at English to translate. This week in school we reviewed the themes from the past two weeks (animals and colours) and introduced the theme of shapes. (well, only for the afternoon group, the morning group were sparse this week and needed to continue working on colours and animals anyways for the most part.). Thursday we were called back from site at Lunchtime. There was a major court verdict coming down that afternoon and Sangam was worried about anything happening. Nothing did happen though - as soon as the verdict was announced it was challenged and sent up to the supreme court ( Read more... )

We've now been at our sites for a week and a half. Gerda and I get along famously and are really enjoying our placement. We are working at a study centre of the door step school.
