Who let the morons loose at Google? Over the past few weeks, google search has descended to shit. Most obviously, + no longer works to force matches to include the term(s) you want. If you fish around, you'll find that they claim you can use quotes instead ... but it doesn't actually work! I tell google I want a very specific search with quotes ( Read more... )

oh, that explains the lack of usefulness that has occurred recently.

I knew about the deprecation of +, but hadn't seen the impact.

I now know why the street numbers are no longer showing on maps. That's very irritating, to put it mildly.

I have no idea why street numbers have gone away. It's claimed in the google discussion groups to be a bug, so they are supposed to be coming back. How/why they would screw up something that major (across Australia and New Zealand) is beyond me.

Clicking on "directions" from the base maps.google.com URL with no search gets me my address as the starting point. Unfortunately, it doesn't work anywhere else.

Yep, that's the one I was counting when I said they'd fixed one. And, yes, I've seen comments online that it's only fixed in that one context, so I guess I was being generous.
