Who let the morons loose at Google? Over the past few weeks, google search has descended to shit. Most obviously, + no longer works to force matches to include the term(s) you want. If you fish around, you'll find that they claim you can use quotes instead ... but it doesn't actually work! I tell google I want a very specific search with quotes ( Read more... )

Kern's guava nectar was a new discovery at the Con Suite at the Worldcon. I'm pretty sure I'd only ever consumed guava in mixtures before and had never identified how good it would be alone. Even more amazing in the USA, it contained sugar, not high-fructose corn syrup ( Read more... )

Went into town with a friend to the Resources Roadshow today. Lunch was surprisingly good, as finger food goes: spring rolls, sandwiches, wraps, little pies, carrot cake, chocolate cake, other cakes, wine, etc. The speakers had passion for their companies, but it will be interesting to see if any of them will be big successes. In the past, I've often bought computer parts in the USA. Once, a whole computer! It was $20 from a library and came home with me in a big box as luggage. (And, yes, it had a tower case.) It's been about a month since Aussiecon 4, but I didn't get around to writing about it earlier.

In case any of you don't know, there is a massive UN conference in the MCEC up to, and including, that Wed. The Con has been assured that silly levels of security will be in force over there until however late they feel like.
