Well, I think the Senate passing its health care bill on Christmas Eve shares a bit of the pageantry of the interregnum. It's also worth noting how effectively the debate around that bill has narrowed people's perspectives, replacing a sense of its worth with the frustrations of its weekly travails -- it very effectively stripped away much of the initial optimism.
