I'm really sorry to be all about me right now, but can anyone out there reassure me? My ob just told me that based on our bloodwork, we have a slightly elevated risk of Down Syndrome- 1/258 instead of 1/350 expected for my age. I know this is less than 1/4 of 1%, and I'm not inclined to get an amnio given the risk of miscarriage and how difficult ( Read more... )

Kris, check out this link on babycenter.com. LOTS and LOTS of good stories with odds of DS much worse than what your dr gave you:

(((HUGS)))) I am sorry. This was based on your bloodwork? Did you do the nucal fold test yet? What did they say on that.

Big hugs. I don't have ant stories on this.

Try to focus on the still VERY minimal risk and the pure joy of being pregnant...though I know it is much easier said than done. The biophysical proflle will be able to tell you a lot more. When is that scheduled?

Your baby is going to be amazing....of that I am certain.

Kris- what test was performed that showed you the results? Was it the Nuchal Translucency? We do a test here now called the sequential screen, which takes the results from the NT and adds it to the results from another test taken between 16 and 18 weeks, and that gives your final risk factor. That test has a much higher accuracy rate thna others. I would ask about that ( ... )

Hi - I know of lots of friends who had elevated risks AND even had the amnio done and all was fine. Try not to worry too much about it. I know it's easier said than done. Thinking of you...
