I've been working on ramping up to jogging, too! It's really daunting, but I figure with small steps every day, it's not that bad. The sit ups and push ups, on the other hand, have been much harder to get into.

You should look at the Couch Potato to 5k program: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I'm working on a similar one (to get me up to 100 push-ups because I have sad pathetic weakling-arms, and They like to assign me jobs like "bring the 60-lb swings out completely by the time that sound cue finishes, plzkthx")

Take it from me, a little each day goes a long way. Do five push ups in the morning, tell yourself you are awesome for accomplishing this goal. Do it every three days. Each week, add a couple more.

The more you do all at once, the more you'll dread it. If you build up to it, you start wanting a little more.

Then again, I'm sure I'm saying stuff you already know. Doesn't hurt to make sure. ;o) Good luck in Cali!
