So, What's Up?

Nutrition Question: I go to work with these things: 1 apple, 1 orange, Peanut Butter, 1 serving of low-cal yogurt (80 calories) 2 diet Sprites (0 carbs, 0 calories, 0 caffeine) and optional 1 banana.  At my first break, I take ta Diet SPrite and either the apple, core and slice it (love my apple corer/slicer!) and add peanut butter to each slice; ( Read more... )

I suggest starting a journal like at fitday.com. It's free. You can record all your food intake *and* your exercise/job's activity level. It'll tell you your caloric intake as well as break it down by protein/carb/fat.

I don't think it's 100% accurate, but I think it does a pretty good job.

"pretty much whatever" for supper could mean a lot. My suppers often are around 1000 calories if I'm not paying attention to keeping that down. A friend told me under 900 is a starvation diet, but considering that I burn around 3000 a day (and you probably do too, if not more with your job) I like to get at least 2000/day. More, usually.

And I focus on getting more protein than carbs as much as possible, because it's hard to get more protein without resorting to lots and lots of protein bars/shakes, which is problematic. (Too much soy raises the estrogen levels, though I think you need quite a bit for it to matter.)

Not to harp, but since you asked... replace the Diet Sprite with someone more natural maybe? Even just water... carbonated beverages CAN leech calcium from your bones. And the caffiene isn't good for you.

For what it's worth? I had chicken nuggets, waffle fries and diet coke from Chic-Fi-Lay before my class this evening. :-)

argh...but Sprite doesn't have caffeine! Alright, alright, I know carbonated beverages are bad for you, no matter how "healthy" they appear to be....but I love them so much! *sob*

See, that's the problem right there. At supper, I eat pretty much whatever my roomie cooks. And it usually involves frying in oil, battering in flour, and adding stuff like rice, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, or something like that. *sigh* last night was an exception. Had Corn, Green beans, and oven-baked chicken. I ate two breasts, and the veggies. I guess I was really hungry!

Carbohydrates aren't the enemy. It sounds like you may not be getting enough given the amount of physical work you're doing. Plus it's better to stock up on carbs in the morning/afternoon when you're more likely to burn them off than in the evening when your body will just absorb them.
