Jun smiled as Kazu let out a soft snore beside him, very reluctantly his twisted free from his brother’s tight grip, dropping a kiss on his forehead and left the bedroom. He knew that Masaki had to go into work early to feed the animals and he was determined to go with him so they could talk. Kazu hadn’t said anything about what had passed between him and Masaki and although he wanted to trust Kazu there was something he wanted to clear up with Masaki. After brushing his teeth he headed down stairs glad to see Masaki still in the kitchen.
“Why are you up?” Masaki asked in a still chilly voice indicating that he was still cross with him. Jun took a deep breath and moved towards him.
“Masa-nii…” he started
“Don’t call me that” Masaki snapped, grabbing his empty bowl and almost slamming it in to the sink “If you want to sleep with Kazu we can’t be brothers”
“What?” Jun asked his heart almost falling out of his chest as he heard those words. He pushed his feelings away and started again “Did you tell Kazu that too?”
“No, none of this is his fault! You tricked him into doing this somehow! Kazu he wouldn’t…”
“You really don’t know Kazu very well then” Jun sighed and put what was left of the valentine’s chocolates onto the table “Kazu he had these made for me, where we live there’s a sweet shop that allows you to make your own shapes and sweets for valentines… I didn’t even think about getting Kazu any but Kazu went and made me some…”
“What are you trying to say?”
“I’m saying that he loves me just as much as I love him, I wish you would see that. Kazu means everything to me, he always has…”
“Because he doesn’t understand…”
“He does, he does understand, he isn’t stupid”
“I know that! I never said he was stupid…” Masaki snapped glaring at him “Don’t twist my words!”
“By saying he doesn’t understand, you’re implying that he’s stupid…” Jun pointed out and Masaki threw his hands up in the air and grabbed his keys from the hook.
“I have to get to work” He snapped unlocking the door and storming out in a huff. Jun grabbed his coat and followed him to the van, pulling open the passenger door he slid into the seat.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
“Coming with you” Jun answered with a shrug “You can’t keep ignoring this, I am always going to be a part of your family and Kazu and I will always be together”
“Get out!” Masaki snapped
“No” Jun said rather childishly
Masaki looked at his watch letting out a growl, “Fine don’t!” He snapped starting the van and pulling away from the house with more speed than he would have done normally.
The atmosphere inside the van was thick, neither of them spoke and Masaki kept his eyes fixed on the road. Jun was almost relieved when they arrived at the pet store. The sound of dogs and cats was almost overwhelming as Masaki unlocked the door and unwillingly ushered him inside. Jun was glad though, as it was only February the weather was still bitterly cold.
Still not talking to him Masaki handed him some gloves and an apron to clean out the cages. Jun took them and moved over to the puppy pens. They worked in what would have been silence, if Jun hadn’t let out swears every now and then as he was bitten.
Sometimes he was positive that Masaki let out laughs but whenever he turned to look he was glaring at a kitten or a fish. The air did lighten though and Masaki even handed him a plaster for a bite on his hand that was still bleeding. The puppies were as gentle and as docile as anything though when Masaki started feeding them.
“That one’s Kazu” He said pointing down at a black and white patched puppy that was wagging its tail enthusiastically at him.
“Why that puppy?” Masaki asked the corners of his mouth turning up just slightly.
“Because he looks a little like Kazu… And he’s the only one that’s happy to see me…” Jun answered picking up the pup and tickling it under his chin. “Am I right?”
“Yeah, you’re right… I lied before though… I didn’t name him Kazu just because he looked like him… When he was in the womb he didn’t get enough oxygen so it made him a little… Special, all his brothers and sisters are gone, but nobody will take Kazu…”
“What do you mean special?”
“Like Kazu he’s a little slow at learning things…” Masaki shrugged
“What will happen to him?” Jun asked and Masaki chewed his lip sadly,
“I’m not sure…” he said and Jun stared at the puppy. Masaki was right, there was something in the puppies eyes that reminded him a lot of Kazu’s during his ‘spacy’ moments and his heart nearly broke, more so when the pup licked his nose.
“Why… Why didn’t you tell us? Seven years and you never told us” Masaki whispered, as he put the now half full bag of dog food back in the cupboard “If what you’re doing isn’t wrong… why didn’t you tell us?”
“Because what we’re doing is wrong… But I’m asking you to understand even though it is wrong…” Jun told him softly, refusing to admit that his hands were shaking, glad that he was still holding the puppy. “Even if you can never think of me as your brother again, accept me as the person who loves Kazunari more than anything and would never let anything bad happen to him”
“J…” Masaki whispered looking almost tearful as he looked up at him. “You’ll always be my baby brother… You and Kazu… Give me some more time, I promise that I’ll try”
“That’s all I want…” Jun told him gently and Masaki gave a small smile. Jun felt a lot happier with that, he knew it would still take some time but he knew his brother would try like he promised. “This puppy… Can I buy it?”
“I thought you didn’t like dogs?”
“I don’t but like I said I didn’t get Kazu any chocolate yesterday” Jun mumbled feeling slightly guilty when he saw Masaki’s face drop again and quickly added “Though we’d have to change its name”
“Kazu called it ‘Arashi’ because he’s got a lightning stripe on his back” Masaki said carefully, Jun smiled. Masaki smiled sheepishly and went to get some paperwork. By the time Jun was finished getting everything he and Kazu would need to have a puppy the other members of staff came in. Including the girl Jun recognised as the one from 3b
“My brother said that he would take Kazu!” Masaki said almost cheerfully to his boss and the girl let out a sarcastic laugh
“Wouldn’t be the first time” She said her eyes narrowing
“What did you just say?” Masaki snapped.
“Oh come on… If you don’t remember what I told you, you’re a bigger idiot than your fucking brother Kazunari…”
“Kazu isn’t an idiot!” Masaki and Jun shouted together but Masaki continued with “And what the hell does it have to do with you… You’re just a spiteful witch lady”
“Your whole family are freaks!” She snapped walking off in a huff, while Masaki continued to glare
“Come on, let’s take Arashi home” Masaki said grabbing the basket and tray of puppy food and storming out of the shop to his van. Jun followed him quickly with Arashi who seemed to be excited to be outside.
“Masa-nii…” Jun whispered as he sat in the passenger seat. Masaki gripped the steering wheel tightly and took a few calming breaths
“Fine you can have him but you know I’ll come to check up on you so if you don’t take care of my cute little Kazu…”
“Th-Thank-you” Jun whispered almost tempted to cry, Masaki smiled and started the van. Jun couldn’t believe how much had happened in such a short space of time.
When they arrived back nobody was awake so Jun carefully crept into his room with Arashi and put him on the bed. The puppy immediately started licking Kazu’s face wagging his tail so fast Jun was positive that it would drop off.
“J” Kazu mumbled in his sleep his eyes opening slowly, gasping as they focused on the puppy “Eh?!!” He cried jumping into a sitting position and Jun let out a laugh coming to sit on the bed.
“This is the one you liked right?” He asked and Kazu nodded enthusiastically his face shining with happiness “I’m sorry I didn’t get you chocolates Kazu, and I know I’m a day late but will you always be my valentine?”
“Ye-s”
A/N: Okay, I’m sorry this was meant to be posted yesterday >.< but things got stupidly busy there’s only two chapters left I hope you enjoy ^.^
