In the book entitles "Hard Love", the main chracter, a teenage boy, is living alone at home with his mom. But she hasn't touched him in years, since his dad left. She avoids even the slightest brush of a hand completly. So one day he goes into the kitchen and she asks him to take a jar of salsa, and not hand it to her, but put it on the counter closest to her. He refuses and she's forced to struggle to try and remove it from his hand. I catch my breath every time the jar falls crashing to the floor. The mother breaks into tears, and runs. The boy gives up.
