The sun is still shouting at the asphalt, and even the grackles are panting from the oppressive heat of the day. You hold the door for an old man, who has tired of holding the door for his old woman as she exits the fabric store with a basket full of bolts and yarn. Who could think of knitting at a time like this? Subconsciously, a cigarette is sparked and being smoked by your left hand. You decide to stop by the car and drop off your purchase, and then stand in the shade for a bit before brushing out the butt on the side of a pebble coated trashcan. In this shade, you can see sparks. You place it gingerly on the edge of can's lid with half of a smokable cigarette still left, knowing that you won’t be smoking it on the way out. But that the size of cigarette butts on the sidewalk is a good indication of the economy. Money has been flowing into the bank account lately, so why not spend it?
