Had a great time bicycling around Amsterdam today. Everything is just so *cute* here. The canals are very cool and it's flat enough not to be too difficult to ride for a long time. In the center it got pretty busy and we had to get off our bikes sometimes to manage the narrow streets full of people, bikes, motorcycles, and sometimes even cars. But ( Read more... )

Leiden is a nice place. I can see it getting small quickly, though, like small college towns do, except that you can get into Amsterdam in about 30 minutes.

Yeah, I don't think it is the same, really. Sitges is pleasant and all, but it is hard to get around, and actually seems more spread out than Leiden.

On a trip years ago I liked Haarlem very much (and a couple of months ago I found documents indicating my ancestors emigrated to New York FROM Haarlam, so maybe that's why!). But when we were there last year it seemed to be a town in transition. The economy had not been kind to it and there were a lot of closed storefronts.

I also liked Delft a lot.

Gary LOVES A'dam so I am certain we will be making lots more trips there - possibly next spring.

Great photo..brings back memories of my trip there. Wonderful places to visit--of course, living somewhere can be very different.

love the picture! i can totally imagine strolling along the canal. personally, i rather like college towns. in my experience, the residents tend toward the more liberal side in college towns.
