I almost feel safer posting here now that I'm not sure anyone's really around. This entry seems terribly self-indulgent but I want to record this time of high self-actualization, because I'm acutely aware that life changes and evolves and it will, sooner or later, evolve into something else, be it better or worse ( Read more... )

Still reading, and glad to hear that things are going so well for both you and y'all. A large mug of green tea will be consumed in your honor, you being too far away to share with physically and tea being about what I'm up for at the moment.

best,

Joel

Sweet! My friend lent me a really good book on meditation, by the Dalai Lama. I had it with me when I was last in the hospital, awesome. I will try to get the name of it.

Glad the health stuff is going away. Think it is related?

Hard to say about the health problems. They came on so suddenly, but started to abate gradually 2 years later when we moved to Sitges. Never went away though - just with me to a much lesser degree. Could be stress, could be geographic, or a combination. And of course I went to doctor after doctor and tried a zillion and one things, so who knows what's had an effect.

I'd love to know what that book is.

Well, Madrid looks like a pit of pollution, so it could be anything.

Lynn has the book, I will ask her next time I talk to her. I want to get myself a copy too (I returned her copy). It was good because it was very much about concentration, and not a very high level. The three stages were (I think): concentration, compassion, and loving kindness. The first stage is just being able to focus your attention at one point without effort. He says you can learn this with about six months of daily practice. It is just a technique, and lots of other disciplines use it, but it is the basis of all the rest. It is also very helpful in regular life, for getting things done, dealing with pain, etc.

Pema Chodron has some great stuff too. And Thich Nhat Hanh has lots of good ones. I especially liked "The Miracle of Mindfulness" and "Blooming of a Lotus". But almost all of them are great.

I like the expression: "It's always good at the end, if it's not good... it's not the end." I am really happy and happy for everyone that makes their life complete.... I am glad for everyone.
