I would think Holland is much more accepting of your family than Spain was - and you probably feel much more comfortable with that.
Congrats on the new job (and love) working out so well! I remember how frustrated you were with all that over the past couple of years.

Thank you! Yes it's a nice change, one I guess I wondered if would ever come to pass. I know how life goes though, and am doing my best not to get complacent!

To me, it sounds great all around! I know the weather and the language might not be great, but the Netherlands seems to be to be a low-key kind of place, and so are its high points. And I guess that for you they must be all around because I can really tell the difference in you as well. And knowing you can manage the challenges sounds amazing!

Sounds good! Sorry about the bureaucracy. I'm currently pissed that the INE here in Spain wants 3100E for a map of the census tracts in Barcelona. I should be up there in a month or so, to test the weather. Here it is way too hot - local people are complaining. Did it ever warm up for August there?

Nope, never. No summer here. Coldest and wettest in 100 years, apparently.

Maybe next year!

Weird. It was quite cool here as well (although I was sweltering in SC), but it got hot in August.

Don't worry, there will be many years to appreciate a cooler climate as souther Europe starts to fry.

"Kids are lively and nutty, and I saw little of that in either school today."
If you want maya to be in a school where she can be loud and expressive, do not go the Montessori route. I'm sure you of all people are aware of what they Montessori methods are like. I taught in a Montessori school for a quick stint and was not happy with the way they expected the kids to act. It was even hard for me to be soooo calm and quiet. Just my 2 cents ;)
