I have always considered myself a fairly confident traveler. We, the actual traveling part anyways. I find that when I get to where I am going, I get homesick quite easily, which is nothing new seeing as I was homesick my entire first year in SJ.

Last year when I went to Italy, I managed to lose my confidence. I get that I was on a foreign country ( Read more... )

Anxiety is the worst. Did you go back on the meds on your own or did you see a doctor for the new dose?

I hope you have a great time with your family in Kentucky(!). I'm not ready to go back either and we start up again on Monday. Gah!

I went on the meds after going to the doctor. I knew that I wanted to try it again. At first I was taking a half pill, but because I still had some jitters, she suggested a full pill. That has definitely made a difference.

Anxiety is the worst. I find that the more I try to talk myself out of it the more my mind just keeps spiraling. Years ago my doctor recommended the Anxiety and Phobia workbook. I remember finding some of the exercises helpful at the time. Our marriage counselor also specializes in anxiety (which is why I picked her) and I noticed that she had a copy on her desk. When Adrian did his GP rotation the partners in the practice recommended Manage Your Mind (I think that is what is is called) which is based on CBT (I think) they would recommend it to patients but also said that it would be a good read for everybody. Have you talked to your doctor about the side effects?

I hope that the travel went well and that you were able to enjoy your trip. When are you back at work? Will you still be able to see your friend in the evenings and on weekends? Does she have the type of job where you could pop in and take her out for a quick lunch?

Had another thought. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea or a cure all by any means, but have you tried yoga. I've found that the class I'm taking now (although I haven't been in 6 weeks due to perpetually sick baby grrr) is really good for helping me calm my mind and stop anxious thoughts. It also helps me to see how many negative and anxious thought I have running through my mind that I don't even realize are there and how they affect my body and to let go of tension I didn't realize was there. When I am going regularly I can see a big difference between the weeks when I go and the weeks when I can't. Finding the class and instructor that work for you is key.
