You belong to the Horse family, don't you? Gee, they really shouldn't let their pets out without a leash. [ More petting. ]

Huh. Well, she's a paper shaker -- and she's always following the latest kicks, you know? If one guy takes his girlfriend out to the flicks she'll want me to take her too.

So, you know what places're popular for dates lately?

This place is very small, so I don't know much about that. Still, if she likes popular things, maybe you could take her to lunch, then shopping? Girls really like being doted on to some extent, and for their guy to want to sometimes spoil her.

[Lucas turns with a look of surprise at the boy who had plopped himself in the seat beside him as if they'd eaten lunch every day all year. He looked considerably older. Since when did junior or senior drones sit with freshmen? Nonetheless, he tries on a smile.]

Hi. . . . Yeah. I guess it was. I never knew our bodies were made of small things like that until I got here. . . . I mean. Until I got to the highs chool. . . . . . . . Really? That's interesting. OK, I can check. . . . . . Huh. Right.

[ He's smiling like Lucas just told a good joke. ] Ha ha, real funny. School's been in for, like, a month now, right? If you don't know everybody's name yet you should really get on that!

Oh, geez -- silly me. I'm, like, real gone when it comes to her and just forget everything else. [ He laughs sheepishly. ]

[Slugger is about to cross a relatively vacant intersection when he's approached by some guy. But he'll pretend not to notice as he steps over the curb and onto the street.

[ And he'll immediately get in Slugger's way. ] Hey -- safety comes first, kid! You don't wanna get run over by a car, do you? I heard some lady got run over not that long ago, you know!

[Mildly terrified, and not by the story of the lady getting run over.

Slugger will now grip the bill of his cap and avoid eye contact as he tries to get around Hibari.]
