Parrot Food

Tequila has been on a pellet diet since she stopped hand feeding. Though she has always preferred nuts over the pellets my avian vet quite sternly told me that there is too much fat in the nuts and she should be on pellets with nuts & dried fruits & veges as more of a treat.

veering off subject here: When Tequila was a baby and still at the bird ( Read more... )

This is just what I think, but I don't think you should leave parrot lovers. This is an all too common question because it's universally agreed that diet is one of the most important things and one of the biggest things we're educated on! :) But watching the community's just as good for your knowledge ( ... )

I have a mix of Zupreem & Hattisons. The Harrisons is always left at the bottom of the bowl. I only bought the harrisons because the vet insisted and he told me to starve Tequila into it and I just cant do tat with her after what she did when she was a baby with the nuts.

I must have missed something. You got a parrot! I love the name Tequila :-)

I don't know much about feeding birds. I always thought they ate seeds.

I meant to post this in a comunity but mistakenly posted it here. I have 2 parrots. A Severe Macaw and a Sun Conure.

It was the vet who recommended the Harrisons only. The owner of the bird store where I got Beltane from was the one who was feeding him seed and nuts. I Knew I would be getting him to switch over and only purchased a somewhat small bag of the mix she was feeding him. What I did not know was it would be so easy to change him over.

Today I see a difference in his appearance too. Like I said in my first post to the comunity, he was not an attractive sun conure where most are. Well, he is brighter today. I noticed last night that he has a little shimmer to him. I do not know why because I dought it can change the texture of his feather this quickly but something had made a change in him.

After a few weeks of eating Harrison's pellet, they go through a molt and these gorgeous new feathers come in aka the Harrison's molt. It's really weird because that's the only pellet I've seen that does that.

Really? My vet did not tell me about that.

I wish that I could get Tequila to eat them but she really does pick around them. I have tried to give her jst Harrisons but it seemed like she ate none of it for 2 days and when I finally broke down and gave her the Zupreem she went nuts and ate like a pig.
