there are times when Rodney thinks that John might be more like Sheppard than they all originally deducted. It isn’t just that he never mentions his parents, never asks why he’s on Atlantis rather than Earth, why he never questions the utterly terrifying faith he has in Rodney, it’s more in the little things.
Oh John. *sobs*
almost startled when Lorne just rolls his eyes and lets the comment roll of his back like...like Sheppard would. Somehow that makes him resent the Major a little more.
Oh Rodney. *hugs Rodney hard*
Also. Lorne is kinda awesome.
“So, what, you’re taking him away from me?”
[snip]
Rodney gets what she’s saying, understands that it’ll be worse on John if he goes and dies on the kid, but it still feels like he’s being punished.
“Fine,” he snaps. “I’ll take him every second weekend and two weeks every holiday.”
[snip]
And, yes, he does know she’s right. But at that moment, it doesn’t make him hate her any less.
God, I'm so with Rodney here.
he keeps tally on a small hand held in his top drawer and is

I think it didn't help that the snippets are all written at varying stages, moreso when Rodney has already managed to get reasonably comfortable with John, but the truth is, that's not something I can see happening with Rodney quickly.
Yeah, I totally owe everyone Elizabeth's story. And I will write it, I promise!
Thanks for another lovely storytlynaMay 7 2009, 00:56:25 UTC
I read this one as soon as I got the notice that it was posted. It was terrific. Poor Rodney and his slow but inexorable complete fall into fatherhood along with Lorne. I felt for them after John was back to being an adult. It would be very traumatic to lose a child even though in a way he is still there. Also a very beatiful rendering of how Rodney felt after Carson's death and the horrible time he had mourning and accepting his loss. On a lighter note Cadman's sneaky comment about hoping to see a naked adult John running through the mess was a delight. Ooooh, Sheppard eye candy! Don't I wish!

Thank you so much for the review! My apologies for the delay responding, life has been fairly hectic. I'm so glad you enjoyed and I really appreciate that you took the tie to review.

I love de-aging fic, but I have to admit I never really buy that the Ancients wouldn't have kid proofed the city. They seem absurdly irresponsible, but that's probably partly because their own people would have known not to go wandering around in the weapon research areas.
I'm not usually in favor for corporal punishment, but I really want them to give that little brat a spanking :). Although honestly he's probably no worse then any three year old. He just has the tools to do way more damage... which is kind of terrifying in a hilarious way. I kind of think they should send him to Earth though. He could have killed people with his space jaunt and he's to little to understand or be reasoned with.

Yeah, that was something I debated, but my main reason for there being a need to do that was that I take it that for the last few years the Ancients were there, Atlantis was a military fighting outpost against the Wraith and they would have evacuated the kiddies asap, so why bother wasting time kid-proofing what they don't need to. And, as you say, their own kids would know better, John does not! A fair comment, though!

*snicker* I'm sure that Rodney wanted to as well!.
As for Elizabeth, her story is still waiting to be told. I couldn't do it properly from Rodney's PoV, so I'll have to write it seperately :)
Ok, I am loving it thus far. Seriously! Trying to imagine a kid just older than a toddler ordering a big armed Marine to let him throw his greens away or let him run through the hallways when he shouldn't.
Oh and a quick question if you don't mind, why a botanist? This is the second de-aged John fic I've read where it's mentioned that John wants to be a botanist. Is it mentioned in SGA?
Oh and I just remembered, I am so sensing chemistry between Rodney and Evan. Love that! Although to be fair, it's more like friendship and it's just my slashy fangirl mentality that has me pointing at them and squealing OMG, you *like* him. LOL
*glee* You know, it so didn't start that way, but I actually wanted to write that in in the end! I didn't because my muses went in another direction and then loriel_eris wrote an amazing wee!John snippet and it fit so well with the 'verse that I had to keep it as cannon.
LoL, so glad you're enjoying! I've not been into my comments for a while, so finding this was awesome!

No, it's because it's one of the few careers that would piss Rodney off! LoL! Short of becoming a "voodoo witch doctor", botany is one of those careers that you can just see Rodney blowing steam out of his ears when he learned someone with John's smarts was 'wasting' themselves on a career with what he would imagine involved little brain power! ;)

And Lorne? Yeah, I love my Lorne!
Glad you're enjoying and thanks for the email about the type, it's fixed!

Yeah, that's exactly what I was waiting for. Exactly.
Also. You now now owe me a story on what's up with Elizabeth and Lorne. Or, that's part of Elizabeth's story?
