We're in the post-everything generation. What does postmodernism teach us?
The meaning of a thing comes from the effects it has on the things outside of it, not directly from anything inside of it.
That includes us. Our meaning emerges from our interactions, not from within us. So I hope that you really do care about your interactions. They are literally the meaning of your life.
I believed my phrasing to be consistent with my position, but your reaction to it tells me that it wasn't put in a very accessible way.
When the meaning of a thing comes from your reaction to it (which is what I take from postmodernism), then any thing, even those things that are not bullshit eastern philosophies, can be a source of teaching.
I didn't mean to get anyone all fired up or anything; I'm surprised that my remarks seemed inflammatory. Sorry for the confusion.
