Today I got my first good look at the guy on my block who wears cat ears, and I kid you not, a full length Wizard of Oz Cowardly Lion tail.

He seems quite proud of his getup and unashamedly struts about the street complete with pot belly and bushy red hair. I admire his courage but he's undoubtedly nuts.

While I'm not particularly fond of my neighborhood I must admit it seems to be a constant source of interest. Just now, as I write this, a house about a block down is fully engulfed in flames. I find I have no patience for people (sadly, not just the elderly) who insist on writing checks at counters where people are waiting in line. For heaven's sake people get a debit card!

Today, as per my usual commute down Horsetooth (a main thoroughfare here in Fort Fun for those of you not familiar with my fair city), I passed a large undeveloped area that contained one rather largish dog hunched over pinching a loaf. Both John Adams, the "voice" of independence and Thomas Jefferson, the "pen" of independence died on the same day. It was exactly 50 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1826. Adams son, John Quincy, then president of the United States said, "it was a visible and palpable manifestation of Divine favor."

Boy, I'd be home thinking a lot too if I were about to take part in casting off the largest empire in the world.

Last night I tried out the used copy of Call of Duty: Big Red One I purchased a few days ago. I drove a tank and hammered a bunch of Germans. Sorry, Martin Luther, but while I share your theology I'm pretty sure your countrymen had it coming last night.

I really love to read biographies. The sad thing is that after living their lives with them from birth, through the failures and victories and (if the bio is a good one) the everyday things they write and do, you still have to say goodbye to them.
