Anzac Day - April 25

Apr 25, 2010 08:20

Australia’s holiest of days. The day that we gather to honour and remember our brave men who died on the shores of Gallipoli 95 years ago today.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them

Lest we forget”

And I hope I didn't offend you with some of my PMs! *hugs*

No, of course not Dea. I enjoyed the interaction and being able to give you news of an old friend. I think that you have my e-mail address...yes?

I think we Europeans don't even know that during world war I there were men from Australia fighting and dying in Turkey, Belgium and France.

No they probably don't know :( Australia lost a huge amount of their young men during the war years.

*hugs you back*

I am sitting here in tears

The ANZAC day parade always makes me cry :(

We should never forget

But we never learn do we :( I don't think that there has ever been any time since WW1 where there hasn't been armed conflict going on somewhere in the World.

It's important to remember the terrible loss of life that was Gallipoli.

I'd never heard of Anzac biscuits - they look very nice!

I didn't know either of the pieces of music - I enjoyed listening to them.

They are dead easy to make...you just mix the melted butter through the dry ingredients.

I didn't know either of the pieces of music
They are famous songs within Australia but probably relatively unknown outside of Australia.

I'm getting choked up.

and the fact that we haven't learnt...I don't think that there has been any time since WW1 where there hasn't been armed conflict going on somewhere in the world.

Will we ever learn....

so many people died, it's important to remember (even if it's so sad). I didn't know about this particular battle, sounds horrible.

the cookies sound pretty delicious, though ;)
